The Ocean - To Release New Album In April

2013 will be a busy year for sludge metallers The Ocean, as the band will release a new album on April 26th (GSA), April 29th (Europe) and April 30th (USA) 2013 through Metal Blade Records, the follow-up to the Heliocentric and Anthropocentric albums. To support the release, The Ocean will embark on a three-week European tour with Cult Of Luna in April and May (dates available below), including a performance at Roadburn Festival on April 20th.

The new album will contain 52 minutes of new music and will be mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia) in January. The release will come in two versions: instrumental and with vocals.

Robin Staps commented: "The album was originally written to be instrumental, but in the end me and Loic couldn't help but try out a few things vocalwise and we soon got pretty excited... so there will be vocals on the album; however, we want everyone to have both versions, and we are also planning to perform the album live that way - with and without vocals."

The special edition of the album will be released along with a film by Craig Murray (Nine Inch Nails). The 3 DVD Collective Oblivion has been postponed for a release later in the year, but will also see the light of day in 2013.

Have you listened to "Precambrian?" If not, you really should because its a totally different sound. I rank Precambrian very high in my collection of music, yet I absolutely hated the Anthropocentric/Heliocentric albums. I felt they lost an edge and I did not like the new vocalist either. The song writing strongly changed, and I just was, frankly, bored after hearing something as epic as Precambrian. Not that I really expected them to top it, but I still thought the last two albums were really lackluster compared to Precambrian.

"Precambrian" and "Heliocentric" are awesome. I would die to see that tour. Just love CoL.
