Van Halen - Live Album And Remasters Coming
Van Halen will release what the band is calling its "definitive live album" on March 31st, the same date they're scheduled to begin a six-album remaster series with reissues of Van Halen and 1984. It's the first-ever live album to feature original singer David Lee Roth. Confirming days of rumors, sources at the Van Halen News Desk have shared the first official details of the live LP, titled Tokyo Dome Live in Concert, as well as information regarding the upcoming remasters.
Recorded on June 21st, 2013, during Van Halen's stop at the Tokyo Dome on their tour behind A Different Kind Of Truth, the 23-song set focuses on the seven albums the band recorded with frontman David Lee Roth, and according to VHND's report, "there are absolutely no touch-ups on the lead vocals, unlike most live albums. They considered using different songs from different shows, but thought it would be better to simply release one stellar performance."
The packaging boasts artwork by the late Ukrainian-French painter and poster artist Cassandre, as well as a lyric sheet that marks the spots where Roth went off-script during "China Town" and "I'll Wait." A deluxe collection featuring Tokyo Dome Live in Concert and the newly remastered Van Halen and 1984 albums, as both a four-CD set and a six-LP vinyl set in special packaging, will also be available on March 31st.
Those remasters, which were sourced from the original master recordings, are the first salvos in a campaign that's set to continue with Diver Down, Women And Children First, Van Halen II and Fair Warning set for release later in spring.
