Chevelle - Fan Dies After Fall At Band's Show

A tragic event occurred at Chevelle's show in Chicago on Friday night. A man fell to his death from a catwalk at the Aragon Ballroom over the weekend, the Chicago Tribune reports. He fell onto two protruding pieces of metal at the North Side venue Friday, according to police. Police are investigating his death, which occurred shortly after he fell about 10:20 p.m. Friday during a Chevelle concert at the venue. The show was immediately ended.

The band has released a statement regarding the matter: "We were asked by police to stop our set so that the authorities could tend to an injured fan. Once the severity of the accident was determined the authorities cleared out the venue to give them time to investigate. We want to thank our Chicago fans for their respect of the authorities and for understanding that these decisions made by the authorities were out of our control. We love our fans in Chicago and while there was no question that the show would be cut short in light of this tragic event, we will be sure to play for you all again as soon as possible. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Chevelle fan Kyle Kirchhoff and at this time we ask that you all keep Kyle and his family in your thoughts and prayers."

Kirchhoff was with two friends on the Aragon's second-floor balcony when the trio wandered through a door on that floor, a source said. Two of the three found their way to a catwalk where they were able to watch the show, and after a short while, they noticed Kirchhoff wasn't with them. When they searched for him, they found his body. He had apparently fallen about 6 to 8 feet onto two metal rods, the source said.

Kirchhoff suffered two wounds to his chest and was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:54 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office and police.

The concert was stopped after the body was found.

Jesus, that's intense. Sucks that he passed at a Chevelle show, though.
