A staff guy...
Dark Tranquillity fanboy since 2003, and this song gives me no reason to think that will change any time soon.

Actually not a bad song. Gives me some hope for the album. Soilwork brought it back big time last year so maybe DT can too.

Doesn't sound much different from anything on the last album, which isn't a bad thing. Love DT. \m/

One of the few remaining Gothenburg metal bands that still sticks to the foundation of the style. Please don't ever change that, DT!

Imo Dark Tranquillity never lost anything that made them a consistent, ever changing yet solid band (yeah I know it does sound a bit like some of their lyrics

Anyway every new release makes me happy and eager like hell and this new song truly kicks asses so that I can hardly wait till November !

Nice one there!

Metal elitists are funny. If a band change their music (In Flames) they are sellouts or shit. If a band keeps constant with their sound (DT) they are boring retards. Never change metalstorm community.

It's not that simple. The music In Flames does nowadays sucks not because their changing styles, but due to poor song-writing in that new structure. Honestly, IF is poorer at that genre than many other band from there. Same thing I would say with Opeth. Fans tend to welcome changes as long as they keep the quality intact.

In Flames doesn't suck because they changed their sound, they suck because their changed sound sucks lol

No one thus far in the thread called them either sellouts/shit or boring retards. The closest one came to dissent was someone insinuating that because another band (Soilwork) subjectively "brought it back big time last year", DT could as well... Which I can't help but interpret as one person's gripes that no one else shares.

I believe you'd be hard pressed to find longtime fan of DT around these parts that would call them either sellout/shits/boring retards. If anything, the dedicated stick around, and the less interested move on, because to them, their lack of interest is the same as it was 10-20 years ago, they just can't be bothered to care. Thanks consistency! It never interested them before, there's no reason to get upset all of a sudden.

Seems that many people here, incl I, do not agree with you. The problem with In Flames is not about their change of direction but the poorly inspired and shitty sounding tracks they produced. You cannot say that Dark Tranquillity has been doing the same thing over the last decades : come on, dare you compare Skydancer to Projector ? Damage Done to Heaven ? They sure changed style here or there but I have always loved what they've done and I'm confident that Atoma will be another great album ! As for In Flames up to a point I enjoyed their change of sound, say from Sountrack to Your Escape to Sounds of A Playground Fading but I cannot stand A Sense Of Purpose or Siren Charms. As for Amon Amarth, to give you another example, their latest album found me bored to death with half its tracks... So YES to change but it implies taking risk and every one is seemingly not able to keep up with quality then.

Sorry for such a long and boring comment, feel free to slash me

I think it's a good first single, similar to what they have been doing in the last couple of albums. Can't wait to hear the rest

I used to love In Flames even after their change of style - for example Sounds of a Playground Fading (which stands maybe halfway through this sound-changing process) is IMO very solid album. I also like some songs from Siren Charms (title song, Filtered Truth, Rusted Nail...), but other pieces from this album sound boring - flat sound, crappy songwriting, very predictive...
And now they released new singles from "Battles", which are as boring as most of songs from Siren Charms, maybe even in bigger scale. I am not surprised about people complaining about them, it seems that they feel same as me.

Sounds very much like a continuation of Construct. Not necessarily a bad thing. This track doesn't blow my socks off, but we'll see how the album turns out. Good to see new music from these guys regardless.
