Mastodon - New Album Detailed, Share Song
Are you up for a new Mastodon song? In case you didn't know, the band has recently revealed some info about the follow-up to Once More 'Round The Sun. It will drop on March 31st, 2017. It's called Emperor Of Sand and the first single has just arrived today after some teasing from the band. Satisfy your curiosity below and listen to the tune "Sultan's Curse".
Bill Kelliher states about the album: "It's a little bit of the same as the last album, but I think it goes even deeper in certain areas - a couple of more psychedelic parts, a little more technical parts. There are a couple of new places we haven't gone before. So it's just kind of a continuation of the last record to me, but even deeper."

Musically this didn't stick on me that much but there's something about it that tells me it'll grow more with each listen, like Crack The Skye did way back when. Vocals are totally on point though. Don't mind them continuing with the more mellow stoner sound at all, but I hope it can someday reach the memorability and immersiveness of Crack The Skye again. We shall see. And artwork is dope, looks like a tripped out Genghis Khan skeleton in a futuristic volcanic wasteland...... or something.

The cover art is much less trippy than the Mastodon standard. The song is ok, but also have a feeling that it will grow on me with subsequent listens.

The song is okay, but if the band's last album is any indication, then this could be one of the more forgetable songs of the album (that was certainly the case with "High Road" on "Once More..."). No matter what, still look forward too the album, Mastodon never fails to deliver

I like how they went back to an actual theme on this album (desert), like their earlier albums. As for the song- it's a pretty good opening track. Bodes well for the rest of the album.

Sounds a lot closer to the Mastodon I like, very Crack the Skye-like. It could just be O'brien's production though.
