Slipknot still kicks ass and this album is shaping up to be better than the gray chapter. Unsainted and this song are great imo. Really liked All Out Life too... even though for whatever reason it didn't make it to the album... and the album is practically named after it. Odd.

UPDATE! looking at my first impression (comment) I agree that I'm too harsh and this song is not that terrible as i think from first listened but it's still bad :>

Riff at 1.21 just copying and they in turn took it from Skrillex - bangarang
WOW what is this cycle of ripoffs

So.. I'm pretty upset Corey vocals are very strange not heavy/not pop/not dark/not agressive just a hybrid mixture of all that is possible? and the chorus does nothing
he doesn't seem to fit the song at all

so what we got? blind ripoff / chorus sounds like a foreign body / and only the first riff is cool but Corey doesn't know what to do with him and this is like WTF

congratulations to slipknot it is absolutely awful/uninspired/terrible song in the first time I see something like that from such a big band

I just happen to like Corey's vocals somehow. It fits the band's playstyle... I like this one.

I don't hear any similarities in those riffs at all, I'm not sure what kind of connection you're trying to make. Either way, riff sharing and getting inspiration from other bands (even other genres like Skrillix) is extremely common. The vocals are great too and nothing about them sounds different from the rest of the bands discography. Slipknot is a very polarizing band on MS due to their success and mainstream popularity, sounds to me like you came into this news post wanting to hate the song so you invented some reasons to not like it.

if you don't hear any similarities in those riffs - there are only 2 choices
1.you're a blind fanboy
2.you're the one who fails the adequacy test right now, with a loud bang
Either way riff shari.... no. No. NO. Either way does not exist in this way what are you trying to justify? inspiration is when you take a riff and add something from yourself or rework and here is a clean ripoff and they stretched that riff(idea) to the whole song, I may be picky about the vocals, but this is not a level for slipknot, max demo version for stone sour if corey starts growling it is automatically cool - fuck no

you invented some reasons to not like it. - invented? the next time you listen and compare songs turn on the sound on your computer

Look I don't know the words to describe riffs but apart from the long chugging section, these are nothing alike. Its not like that chug is unique to Anaal or hasn't been done in thousands of songs before. Its just one note strung really fast. The entire Anaal riff is much longer, goes into a bit of a funky section after the chug and is way more complicated. Slipknot's is much simpler while progressively getting higher pitched. Maybe you can describe what you're hearing better, but I don't hear any similarities apart from stringing one note really fast. Its not even the same note, Anaal is tuned way lower.

Ok in regards to the two riffs being copied, I've transcribed each one.

Firstly, here is the riff in the Slipknot song.

Next, here is the Anaal Nathrakh transcription.

It's pretty evident that there are some stark differences in the structure of each riff. The only actual similarities are the open power chord chug in measure one of the Slipknot riff, compared with measure three of Forward, but really that's an incredibly common phrasing and calling it a rip off is a bit ridiculous.

Edit: Also I really should say, both of these riffs are incredibly generic and I can't count the number of times I've seen similar structures used.
Edit2: Also also, if you happen to like either of these songs don't be offended by me calling the riffs generic, plenty of great music isn't exactly creative and one riff isn't representative of an entire song or album.

Awesome to see that visualized! Thanks for doing it. Slipknots is definitely generic, I think Anaal's is a bit more interesting. I like both songs though. Slipknot is known for being the heaviest band you'll ever hear on American radio, not necessarily their originality. I remember back in the early 00s when they were huge, people were afraid of their music and yet everyone knew who they were.

Don't know if I would call them the heaviest band you'd hear on the radio. I've heard heaver bands back when I stared listening to the rock radio station which also had the station called the pure metal melt down. Which had all kinds of stuff from death metal to metalcore to thrash. I would more likley call them the heaviest nu metal band maybe.

Nowadays you might be right, but Slipknot (and Korn to a lesser extent) is the band to have opened the door for heavier music on the radio in the early 00s. If you're listening to XM or any other subscription based radio you'll definitely hear heavier music. If that was an FM station, do you remember what city it is? I haven't heard anything heavier than them in Philly and I'm curious to know where I should move to!

I'm from NC and I think the radio station was probably no different from a lot of other radio stations from around America. They played mostly what was popular and classics sometimes smaller bands at least at the time were they were big like Taproot.I don't know if Slipknot or Korn were the heaviest because I don't remember everything they played back then. Like Static-x is one of the heavier bands they was on the radio as well. But if you're talking about in broad daylight I guess your right. Around night time on Saturdays they had the pure metal melt down were they play metal. I guess your right they two of the bands that open the doors for most nu metal bands. But you also forgot System Of a Down and Deftones has also help with that as both of them have came before Slipknot as well as Korn. At least if were talking album releases whys. Slipknot is definitely the most mainstream though.

This one definitely took more from the In Flames side of the weird ass genre meld these bands seem to have done since they first toured together all those years ago.
