As announced last week, thrash legends Anthrax regretfully cancelled the first three dates on the second leg of their European tour due to new vocalist Dan Nelson's unexpected illness. An additional seven European dates are also cancelled, those scheduled from July 22 to July 30. Anthrax is thrilled to announce that they will play the August 1 Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, England, with their good friend John Bush joining them for a very special one off performance.

The members of Anthrax have confirmed the departure of vocalist Dan Nelson. In light of this development, Anthrax's slot on the U.S. Slipknot dates set for August and September, has also been cancelled. Anthrax is already actively considering lead singer candidates, and look forward to hitting the road before the end of the year.

Just keep John Bush!!!!
DayFly - 22.07.2009 at 01:23
Please don't, leave Bush to Armored Saint. Or at least allow Bush to do both.
Marcel Hubregtse - 22.07.2009 at 01:26
Bush should be smart and wise and stay with Armored Saint and give Anthrax the middle finger for the ay they treated him not too long ago.
Ereinion - 22.07.2009 at 01:30
There is something wrong about this story.....

Nelson has some of the best pipes in modern metal you don't go and fire one of the best singers.....

Let us hope that Joey or maybe John come back....
Galar - 22.07.2009 at 01:36
Something sounds fishy here
Daggon - 22.07.2009 at 01:42
Wow, they changed their singer very quick! I wonder who will be the next one on the list.
Orphan Saint - 22.07.2009 at 01:54
I'm really bummed I'm gonna' miss these guys this weekend. Too bad they couldn't get Bush to fill in for all Sonisphere dates. I definitely disagree with the "Bring Bush Back" outcry that's going on though. As much as he is my favorite Anthrax singer, I'm really looking forward to some new Armored Saint stuff. Oh well, hooray for the ensuing shit storm!
Darkside Momo - 22.07.2009 at 02:23
Strange stuff going on there...

Bush supposedly isn't in the music business anymore (according to an Anthrax interview published in Rock Hard France)...
And Nelson was good, really good at Hellfest. And then he isn't in the band, with no explanations. Whoot?
LeChron James - 22.07.2009 at 03:09
Bring belladonna back. even if he wont come back or if the other members dont want him there. whichever the case may be.

Then Rock Hard France is totally wrong cause he is in Armoured saint and recording with them.

I agree on Nelson. What do you mean no explenations? Anthrax said Nelson left due to health problems.

To be precise, it was Scott Ian who said that in Rock Hard France.
And about the health problems... Well it's the most logical guess, but the news above only says that they cancelled some shows due to said illness. The info about his departure is without further explanations... So, it's probably that, or maybe Scott Ian said 'what a whimp' and kicked him out. Or something else (maybe illness means drugs, or whatever).
Raiden - 22.07.2009 at 06:08
So is Nelson out of the band, or just not performing a few songs because he's sick?
STEELER - 22.07.2009 at 06:21
JOE BELLADONA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tulkas - 22.07.2009 at 06:32
Get Michael Jackson!... No, wait... he's dead.
Dangerboner - 22.07.2009 at 09:12
They better not bring in that Slipknot dude they were thinking about....
BitterCOld - 22.07.2009 at 09:18
Anthrax singer drama ... take a drink.
Infurnace - 22.07.2009 at 13:15
They just need to stick with John Bush. He was the best singer Anthrax has had, IMHO.
routa - 22.07.2009 at 15:12
Bring Turbin back!
Demonmayonnaise - 22.07.2009 at 15:52
Dan was a pretty good vocalist, he kinda butchered the belladonna stuff though. I cant believe hes already outta the band.
The Shape 1973 - 22.07.2009 at 20:57
They sacked him because he was ill, that's harsh.

Must be more to it than that. Bring back Joey.
BitterCOld - 22.07.2009 at 22:45
Maybe they could find a filipino guy via myspace to fill the void like Journey did to fill the shoes of their departed vocalist, Steve Perry, who sounded an awful lot like Joey to begin with.
Black Conundrum - 23.07.2009 at 01:27
Ha, I was just staring at the advertisement for the Anthrax/Slipknot show in Minneapolis on September 4, which, I guess, is now cancelled.
Thought. - 23.07.2009 at 01:29
JOEY BELLADONNA or NIEL TURBIN!! Fuck this "grungier" sound they've gone for. Bush was a great singer, but he was no Belladonna!

Ian and Benante should just bring back S.O.D.!!

Why do you consider this band a total joke and not bands such as, let's say, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Overkill etc.?

Those bands are just as much of a joke to me as Anthrax
Especially Metallica is a huge joke when it comes to treating fans and personel, Megadeth (Mustaine) horrendous as well at treating band members, Slayer as well when it comes to how Lombado has been treated through the years. And Overkill, well, can't really take their music seriously now can we?

Actually I don't like them at all.
Venom I respect for their first couple of albums and the huge influence they've had on extreme metal but toally not for the way thy treat their old band members. But Nanowar of Steel is just pubescent juvenile hunour with a fixation for piss, shit and anal stuff.

i won't even say anything about Yngwie Malmsteen and Jon Schaffer

Enough off-tpoic now back to Anthrax.
Ankläger - 23.07.2009 at 22:43
There was talk in 2005 about Joey doing an album with them, then he said no and left, and they get Dan, and announced a new album for May 2009, Worship Music, which was pushed back to October. And now with this, they'll probably scrap the album and start another 2 and a half year cycle.
SatyriconChick - 18.11.2009 at 06:39
This is pathetic. And this isn't exactly 'new' news, but according to Dan Nelson, he never WAS ill at all, that was a made up excuse to get him out of the band. Had Scott not been such a dick, maybe Joey would have stayed with the band. Hell, maybe even Dan Spitz would have as well. Once upon a time, Anthrax was my FAVORITE band, or at last the classic lineup was my favorite. Nothing could beat their releases, from Spreading the Disease to Attack of the Killer B's for me back in the day. It's just sad what they've become.
