The Bloodstock Open Air festival is the U.K.'s biggest and best full-on metal festival, and this year marks its fifth open air event once again at Catton Hall at the south of Derbyshire. The festival has grown over the years and is now one of the most important dates on any metalhead's calendar. The festival has always hosted a varied line-up of both popular and underground metal and this year is no exception.

Catton Hall will once again be the home to this great event. It is located in the middle of the Derby, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham square - with the nearest towns being Lichfield, Burton upon Trent and Tamworth. The location of Catton Hall can be viewed at this location.

Catton Hall is just 20 miles from either the Birmingham or Nottingham East Midlands Airport, 60 miles from Manchester airport and 130 miles from Heathrow airport for foreign visitors. A shuttle bus service will also run from Lichfield and Burton upon Trent, information on the shuttle bus service as well as opening times, age restrictions, camping and any other information you may need can be found at this location.

Reviews of past events can be seen here. For Bloodstock Open Air 2008: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and Bloodstock Open Air 2007: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3.

So, we have the overrated Wintersun. They will probably do more festivals in 2009 as well then.

Haha you're fast! I agree for a band with only one album (minus Jari's Ensiferum days) they seem to be overly legendary... let's see where they stand after they have a chance to fall from grace and disappoint, taking them long enough...

Wintersun. Duff band.

I'm sure it'll go down well with many other people though... But meh, Sabaton should be ok.

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter confirmed!!! It will be the first time the band ever play this country I think. Saw them at Wacken 2007 and they are a real pleasure to watch live.

I'm sure B.O.A used to be far more power metal than it is now, seems very doom laden now, is it just that peoples tastes have changed or are they just trying to make another Ozzfest.

Yes, you're right. Bloodstock used to have much more power..
Still, there's time for some to be announced this year.

All Wintersun shows cancelled

There has come again unexpected problems with technology, which will make finishing the "Time" album even more harder than it has been. Which will delay it even more. There´s also some personal problems concerning my apartment.

Because of all the problems, I have fallen under a serious amounts of stress, which is sometimes causing me "writer´s blocks". This album making is now turned into such a "risky business", that I have no choise, but to cancel Summerbreeze and Bloodstock.

The thing is, the album has to be done first, before we can play any shows. Playing just old songs after many years isn´t something we want to do and what probably no one wants to see.
After the album has been mixed, I need to mix again a "backuptrack livemix" (of the synths&orchestrations). Then we have to of course practise the new songs and arrange them into "live format" (especially mine and Teemu´s guitar parts). We also need to update our humble live gear.
All these arrangements take time, so we don´t want to risk it, that we might have to cancel the shows last minute. It must be done now and put finishing the album the number one priority. After the album is done, we will start booking shows again.

I know there´s lots of disappointed people and I have to apologize. But I hope that you´ll understand my decision under these circumstances. I have to put the album first and finish it before we play any shows. Thanks for listening!

Brilliant the new Chinese Democracy? What I actually think is that they haven't recorded a single note yet.

Hahaha, well I'm not too bothered about them pulling out, but I know there will be a load of disappointed people.

Still, Carcass there, that'll be great again. It'll be what... my forth time seeing them... and that's for a band who were supposed to only be doing a few shows. Hahaha.

I heard from a very reliable source it won't be Moonspell (so you don't have to chop a testicle off, imo Moonspell live is vastly superior to anything Wintersun can come near to btw) but it will be Opeth (so now run off to the sawmill and remove both testicles )
