I have seen topics about Norwegian Black Metal, Canadian Black Metal, American Black Metal, British Black Metal, Swedish Black Metal, German Black Metal, and French Black Metal, but no topic about Greek Black Metal. To me, that is an outrage, because Greece has one of the most unique Black Metal scenes in the world.

Rotting Christ needs no introduction. Formed around the same time as Rotting Christ is Varathron, which displays black metal in its primitive stages, with mid-paced rhythms and low, death metal-type vocals. Then there's Necromantia, who have an 8-string bass in place of the guitar, which they effectively use to create an original sound. There's Agatus, who blends black metal with the NWOBHM sound, and Nocternity, a one-man band akin to Burzum and Graveland, who sings high praises of ancient Greece. There is also Astarte, the all-woman black metal band that is not afraid to experiment with the other extreme metal genres. Most notable of all is Naer Mataron, the Gorgoroth of the Hellenes (musically, that is).

Well HELLENIC BM will rise from ashes and pawn all , greek bM is more hellenic, hellenic lyrics and one of rear who use in BM national history lyrics like song ''Aris God Of Brutal War''

Thanks for hellenic metal existence because is one of the best scenes (especially black metal scene) and the ONLY bands that come in Cyprus for live concerts!
I will never forget Rotting Christ and Septic Flesh concerts, and the other greek bands of course who played here as well

Yeah we do have some really great BM bands over here: Personally I would recommend ROTTING CHRIST, VARATHRON, NECROMANTIA, KAWIR, NAER MATARON, ASTARTE, NERGAL and some more obscure older bands like MORTIFY or LEMEGETHON....

Greek black metal is good. Sometimes I listen to Rotting Christ, Necromantika and I found some good Greek stuff in youtube too.

SAD is the only Greek Black Metal I've listened so far, but they seem to be pretty good. If there are some other Greek Black Metal bands like this, recommendations are welcome.

I will grant that the lead singer's costume/makeup is cool, paralleled only by the get-up of the uruh-kai (pardon any misspellings) from the Lord of the Rings films. Otherwise, the band has little or nothing to offer listeners.

I'd have to agree. After looking up some of their tracks and watching a few videos I've got to say... they're not so good. The track "Incarcerating Gallantry" is plain terrible all the way around, even the members are pretty goofy.

they have older releases, too. There s been some member changes and they changed their music

Black Winter, Ravencult, Zemial, all if them are awesome bands.

Olethros from Dark Messiah was killed in a car bike accident on the 9th of July!
4 days ago I posted a video from them here and today I read on MA their guitarist and founding member is dead.
Can't find any other news on the net to confirm this.

I am kinda new to the greek stuff, but I gotta say it is amazing and I wish that I found this sooner! There is definitely a uniqueness to this that can't be found in any other kind of BM. I cant wait to start adding some of these bands to my collection.

The only "unique" Greek bm bands I know are Transcending Bizarre? and Hail Spirit Noir.

I stumbled upon AMNIS NIHILI's EP, Christological Escalation which is really excellent industrial black metal. Also, it has a short, really nice noisy/drony track. Definitely they have taken many influences from Blut Aus Nord.

Well, Greek's Rotting Christ looked like a tyrant and I really enjoyed their melodic blacks. Actually, it was the first meloblack album I ever heared.

Naer Mataron's Kaiadas is a Parliament Member with the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn party and has been accused of membership in a criminal organisation. That doesn't really make their stuff better. Be sure to check out Skotos Aenaon, though. Good old stuff...
