For online stores it depends on what sort of metal you're looking for. For all sorts of metal although expensive http://www.displeasedrecords.com is a good on-line store.

HMV does it. However they do not have everything... I ordered a Turisas album from them... it's been a year and a half now ( still no news eh...) so I would pass on this one

Maybe you'll have more luck than me . I don't know for you, but here HMV prices are a bit high. I saw Ensiferum's From Afar for 22 $

Oh damn... Anyway We have a shop called Disque et rubans international here in Drummondville. I don't know if it exists in Ontario as well but having the name may help. Their metal section had plenty of material and it wasn't too much expensive when I went there.

Is there a cd plus or Zeus in Thunder Bay? I find that they have quite a good selection for metal, and they tend to be a lot better in price than hmv.

Supernal Music http://www.supernalmusic.com is a good place for purchasing rather underground stuff - a lot of obscure Black Metal and such, but they also have a few more well known releases. It's actually run by Alex Kurtagic of the band Benighted Leams, who's a bit eccentric but friendly and reliable - decent prices and swift delivery times, in my experience.

High-street shops like the aforementioned HMV can sometimes stock some good stuff instore too, I've bought recent Paradise Lost and Amon Amarth CD's from my local one without having to order them.

And, needless to say, sometimes you can get a good bargain on ebay.

no there was a cd plus in duluth ( 3 hour drive ) but it went out of buissness after 14 years

I buy almost all of my stuff from ebay nowadays and from a couple of local second hand stores. But I think on ebay you can find pretty much everything and on fair prices.
I have ordered once from HMV in Newcastle UK (while I was living there)... it was a RUSH cd and they got it from me in less than a week.... can't remember the price but it was fair

I buy a lot of stuff from there because the shipping is free, and some of the albums are cheap. And also I can pre-order and it's convenient. And since it's in the Uk it's better for me because it's less expensive than buying from the US or Canada for instance and since I don't know a lot of other European stores that do that. And this site has every album I ever wanted to buy, so I can't complain. They are pretty fast and I never had a bad delivery and I buy a lot of CDs and DVDs from there.

Haven't actually bought from them, but www.nuclearhell.com has looked to me like a good place if you want physical CD's. Everything's $12, free shipping, good selection.
If you want mp3 albums (LEGAL ones), amazon.com and lala.com are the best I've found. Also amazon's marketplace (people selling used stuff, largely) is pretty good.

I recommend buying from ebay. There's always somebody there who thinks they can get a higher price for an album by putting it up for bids. Usually this has some low starting price of $3. So, I just wait until the bidding time is almost over, and then swoop in and snag the album for a very cheap price.

You can check the Season Of Mist website: I was looking for the new Rotting Christ and when I looked at the promotions there where some really good deals. They ship from France, so I don't know what the postage costs to Canada are, just look at it.

Well recently I start buying albums, which I would never get in our country, through Amazon site. There is quite a large specter of metal albums and DVD's, so it's a great place to buy this stuff. Normally I buy at least 4 or 5 albums in a package, cuz otherwise it would be more or less uneconomical for me...
