Hello, welcome to my topic.

Let me start off. Today, this evening, I got an e-mail from a friend of my father. He is something like a journalist, and travels far too bring home stories of how life is overthere. (Think Russia, Ukraine, anything).

So, he also holds contact with magazines and other institutes from those countries. Now it happens to be, that one of those magazines (Ukrainian Magazine, to be exact) has decided they want more variety in their articles. More stuff, which interest youth, and stuff like that. So, this friend recommended me to that paper, and they asked me to write and essay about the Ukrainian Metalscene. To me, it sounds like a wonderful idea to do, and accepted it.

So, this brings me to the point of my story. Can you help me?

What I need is information. So, recommend me any Metal band from Ukraine, anything. Ranging from Black to Nu to Power. Also information about cultural centres of Ukraine is more than welcome. If you have something and think I can use it, don't be shy to post it here.

well known for its NS-related scene.

drudkh, hate florist (+ new project 'blood of kingu'), kroda nokturnal mortum (+plenty of well knownside projects), dub buk, lucifiugum, astrofaes, lutomysl, munruthel. might also be worth mentioning some russian bands because of the connections. temnozer for example has both russian and ukrainian members.

uukrania is a neighbour country, still, I don't know a thing about them. (exept bm bands...) so if you could be a little more specific about what cultural things you'd like to write about, please do so, as it might be easier to me to get info about it.

here you can find a couple of ukranian metal bands (it's an online music store, music genre is also written)

Let me be more specific. I need to write about the 'Metal Scene'. So, that means Ukranian bands, sideprojects, youth centres where it's happening, festivals, you get it?

Sounds like a fantastic job for a metalhead...will you post the article here as well? 'cause it's always fun to read about the scene in other counties

Well, Ukranian's only good Metal seems to be NSBM, and I don't think they would like to publish that in the magazine, as I understand that your father's friend want to make a "publicitary" article of Ukranian Metal... you should advise him about that fact before writing anything.

if don't think there will be any problem about talking about these bands apart from maybe aryan terrorism which is a rather insignificant one-off project anyway.

I think there's necessity to be careful in these cases... not that I support political correctness, but Nervel's uncle probably don't want to write about a scene dominated by Nazi bands...

the topic shouldn't even come up. if he asks his uncle if hes allowed to talk about "nazi bands" then the answer will inevitably be no because he would have jumped to the conclusion that he meant something like skrewdriver. you can say a lot about the ukranian NS scene without bringing politics for the most part, these bands aren't very outspoken.

I don't really agree that, as writing an article about Ukranian Metal WITHOUT mentioning politics would be very incomplete, as it is an important part on the scene... and I don't agree that they are not outspoken... Nokturnal Mortum had posed with Swastikas (and have song-titles like "The Call Of The Aryan Spirit"), Hate Forest have the sunwheel on the logo (same with Dub-Buk), Drudkh have a song called Sunwheel, and I agree that Aryan Terrorism are a totally worthless act, but it's a side-project of the most known Unkranian Black Metal band after all... I would like to think that he would be able to write an article basied purely on music, and mentioning the "slavian pride" as concept for the scene (that would be very positive), but the German Nazi references are obvious.

EDIT: The sunwheel is originally not a Nazi symbol, but it's obviously associated with it, so that would be necessary lead to talk about the straight-nazism of bands like Nokturnal Mortum.

I don't think they will mind that. I mean, the article if for information mainly, it is not a tourist guide, you see. I feel that if those bands are NSBM, I shall need to tell that in my article. But thanks that you point it out.

firstly, you can't take slavic nazis in serious. second, who gives a damn about underground band lyrics? I mean ppl who'll read this wont even recognize a band name. and there's also freedom of speech, as long as no one is offended offcourse, so as long as satanic/anti-religious stuff , porn etc are protected by this law, so are some song lyrics.

btw KKK meatings are also allowed in the US. anyone cares? no.

So first I have to decide if this Nazi thing is a real 'item' of these bands. Are they serious? Is it a marketing technique? I don't know. Anyone have any sources/opinions/information?

I think it's downward hilarious for a slavic band to call itself as a nazi, because nazis considered slavic ppl as subhumans. so it's like writing songs about hating your own nation and yourself, and wanting to exterminate youreslf.

ofcourse these lyrics don't deal with these themes, I wonder why, or at least I never came across them. this NS thing is also, in many cases, not all, a miss reading of things. the avarege western europeans/us-men (if anyone i soffended, bite me), can't tell the difference between 'healthy' nationalism and NS.

my opinion is: there are satanic bands, so there are nazi bands too.

Hm yes, I see where you come from. It is quite weird the least. I might try getting in contact with bandmembers. Perhaps that will clearify some stuff.

what exactly is so offensive about this?

2) terrorizer run articles on these bands. they even printed a "morally questionable" interview with spear of longinus. if they can do that then im sure there is no huge issue with mentioning hate forest and co in a music article. just shove some cliche comment about "dubious political persuasions" in there somewhere and all controversy is removed even from the most outspoken of bands..

3) he doesn't have to mention in the article that dub buk have a black sun in their logo

@Damnated. Not too much. I believe they have about 600 members, and perhaps 100 who buy it occasionally. But hey, it's a start.

@Tommy Tee. I think I should be able to talk about it too. But if asked it to the chief director anyway, you never know.
