Various former Death members, including guitarists Paul Masvidal, Shannon Hamm, and Bobby Koelble, drummers Gene Hoglan and Sean Reinert, and bassists Steve DiGiorgio and Scott Clendenin, are teaming up on the Death To All Tour, both to pay homage to Chuck Schuldiner and raise awareness for the Sweet Relief Musicians fund, a charity that "provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems." This five-city benefit tour will take place in June and it will also feature special guests.

Tour dates:

June 22 - San Francisco, CA, The Regency Ballroom
June 23 - West Hollywood, CA, House Of Blues
June 26 - Chicago, IL, House Of Blues
June 28 - New York, NY, Irving Plaza
June 30 - Orlando, FL, The Beacham

Bonus points for the charity, but... no Chuck. I'm conflicted.

It's kind of ironic that it's a charity tour entitled "Death To All"

Will they play Death songs? If not, whose songs are they going to play?

Most importantly who'll do the vocals?

Sorry for so many questions. \m/

Hmmm, initially I thought this tour was disrespectful, but I can get behind it now since it's for charity.

Also, the vocalist should be Chuck's brother, like Valfar's brother did during their last show

I think Martin van Drunen would sound great at the mic...though he doesn't have as much in common with the other musicians.

Martin van Drunen is by far my favorite death metal vocalist, but I don't know if he'd fit all of Death's music too well. It would an interesting combination though.

True, he's got a far more vulgar tone than Chuck, but the delivery has similarities at times. Chuck had different stages to his type of technique that Martin might not fit, though. (I'd sure enjoy it, nonetheless...) Personally, I'd love to hear Tomas Lindberg belt some Death, not because he's the perfect man for the job, but MY favorite higher-end death metal vocalist.

Why bother? Without Chuck it simply isn't Death.

This isn't about a Death reunion. This is about paying respect to the legacy of a musician who has influenced thousands, if not tens of thousands, of metalheads worldwide, and who changed the genre forever with his dedication and astounding musicianship. And, to raise money in an effort to ensure that such talented musicians, like Chuck, who are stricken with disorders, get better taken care of. Of course it's not Death without Chuck. But is it still for a good cause? You bet.

Van Drunen would fit Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy really well. If Van Drunen sang on Left to Die it might almost sound enough like Pestilence to go on Consuming Impulse. Tomas Lindberg has a good voice, but his voice has been copied so much, jut like ATG has. And this is why his voice is sort of boring to me. I'd say Peter Tagtgren is one of my favorite higher end vocalists since hes so dynamic with his voice.

Well, over-imitated or not, I still don't think anyone has the pure, anguished trueness of the man himself. Tompa is who he is, and all the newbies and clones haven't turned me off of his voice. I agree with you about Tagtgren being awesome, though.
