I've just read in a socialist forum that these metal bands are leftist.Is it true?

SOAD's definitely an anti-American bunch of left wing types (even though 1st album is good).

I remember checking a bunch of Black metal bands with communist & anarchist theme, something like a response to NSBM, mostly from Greece and Russia. Can't remember any by name, none got me too interest in their music.

System of a down are anti-war, not Anti-American. Serj has praised the US and says he loves the place that allowed his family to come to to escape the armenian genocide.

I agree with RATM, disagree wih Arch Enemy, Sepultura and SOAD and don't know that much about others being socialist or not, which were mentioned at OP. Political, anti-war or anti christian lyrics doesn't make band socialist. There are faults with capitalism and with the USA too and many tend to point at these weak spots, but to calling bands socialist because of that is a little too much.

If you really want you could artificially make them look like socialist bands, but in reality they're not.

I bet there are many truly socialist bands out there as well. When talking about metal you should use metal-archives if you're really interested in these bands.

well he was interesting fella i'll give him that.well my folks say that they liked living in his country so i'll say that he wasn't that bad.Ex-Yugo was only country from socialistic block to have all the benefits of west : products,technology,culture,media,art.Hell ,in the time when the rest of the block was still banning The Beatles ,Yugoslavia probably had 3rd or 4th strongest rock scene in the world.:D (just saying) Than again ,i was not living in that time so i cant really form a opinion about it,him or anything.

I know him. But then again I am 46 and Yugoslavia was still one under Tito when I grew up.

I know Josif Broz as well, same Chausesku , and other east Europian leaders after WWII, maybe not all, but I can name them and aslo know who Anders Bader and Ulrika Mainkaft was ... everyone whit school education should know those ppl ....I did study history, geo, politology .... best grades I get there

no seriously now A E had that kind of "anarchist" theme from the point when they hired Angela as vocalist .And than again its important to state that even that theme sounded like formality ,a thing mixed in just to appeal more to some audience (preferably young angst fueled people).I think that that approach is what killed Khaos Legions.I mean vegan death metal?! are you kidding me!!?

Angela is more vegan, animal wright activist so ... not a socialist at all and more this AE anti world. rebellion attitude is more posing, maybe band was anti social in male vocals era but not now and those lytrics is just words ,,,,

well maybe, but the point remains .I mean its their sole right to sing about what ever they want,but its also my right to ridicule such choice Vegan death metal is in same "what is this bullshit" category as christian black metal, or even that oxymoron called NSBM (of which lyric themes i have already ranted in NSBM thread).

And just for the record ,i dont say that music is bad in A E (well except for Khaos Legions) or Carcass (im not a fan of the band though) and i surely dont care much about what they are singing sometimes (as long it is not NS crap) but for sake of argument where A E Socialist band i used the argument Vegan Death Metal as example that they have "social aware" lyrical themes but they are closer to anarchist themes than being socialist themed band.I mean its similar to saying Megadeth is socialist metal band cause Dave wrote some "socially aware" lyrics (and we all know what "comrade" Dave thinks about that stuff).

PS: Believe or not,i have encountered a thread on some forum stating that Megadeth is socialist metal band now go figure its a crazy world ....

hey i am all for that angry and vengeful god of the Old Testament but i just cant take those bands seriously.Especially compared to (also not serous) "TRVE" bands and really good bands from the 90s.Also there is this problem of basing whole art and sound on religious themes which i am not really a found of. (i think i ranted on this as well in Christian Black metal thread).
