IMO 12 Gauge as compared to their previous albums is too bad!

Their new video (12 gauge) FTW!!! I laugh at the entire video, this is one of the best videos ever, but inferior to Withering Away video.

@Reza: Really? worst than Black waltz and For the revolution?

Yes, IMO 12 Gauge is the worst Kalmah album. What's your idea about that?

Well, I think the album is better than For the Revolution, The Black Waltz, and Swampsong.

Well, in your opinion solos in this album are played as good as before? IMO not and it's the major problem I think.

I don't have any problem with the solos. They are great to me. A song should always be more important than its solo anyway.

That's right but everyone has different taste. I believe their previous works and especially their first 3 albums are better than it.

The production on 12 Gauge is perfect, well at least that's how it sounded on the CD player I was using. I haven't heard much Kalmah (I only own Swampsong and The Black Waltz), but I never knew they could play guitar this well. The new album gets a little boring towards the end, but overall it's better than I expected.

You should check out their earlier albums. If you like 12 Gauge, and enjoy the guitar especially, then I definitly think you will love their earlier albums.

Well why should I give things praise when I dont think theyre good enough? Thats a really silly comment....The problem I have is that people arent critical enough. And what is it to you if I have nothing good to say about anything new? Isnt that my opinion? Im pretty sure I have a right to my opinion and if you read what I said I actually like the new Kalmah a lot more than their last 2 albums. So wheres the problem?

At least I know what I like and listen to music in a critical manner - you will also notice that when you look at my album votes that unlike most people on this site I dont just give EVERYTHING 9/10. I know what I like and the progression I like to hear in bands and the fact that they dont become stagnant....I feel its more of a crime to just think everything is good because when you do then it means nothing stands out anymore. By being critical your learn what you like and why...feel free to disagree.

Another thing, if you want to nit-pick through all my latest "negative" comments on new albums, why dont you say anything about the positives ones i made recently? Like While Heaven Wept, Falconer, Suspyre, Arsis, Be'lakor, Dark Trnaquillity, Ihsahn, Destinity etc. ? Why are you so selective when choosing what I am apparently all about or how much I "dont like metal"?

So yeah, maybe I am harsh on metal, but thats the way I am and im not easily impressed. Lastly I always give valid reasons and explanations for my reasons for liking/not liking things and I feel on a forum thats valid enough reason to not be ridiculed for my thoughts. If its so annoying to you that I dont jump for joy at every new album that comes out then boo-hoo. Or in the future you could actually do some research before you come up with preposterous allagations and take it to heart that I actually do like metal very much perhaps just not the bands / albums that you like.

Dude calm down, i wasn't saying that you don'y have the right to express your point of view, i was just saying that you have created an almost impossible threshold to surpass. Why i see this as a bad thing? like i said you start to find less enjoyment in metal (or any other aspect in life). But as we mexican say "si quieres, has de tu culo un papalote" (if you want, make of your ass a kite) which means do whatever you want. i was just trying to let you see that "problem" as a metal fellow.

EDIT: sorry for the off topic.

"An almost impossible threshold to surpass" ?

How so? So that means that if a band was once very good we should not get our hopes up a few years down the line? I think that is the exact problem I have and you nailed it on its head by what you said - People become more and more content with mediocrity, giving 10s to albums that are nothing more than generic, albums which sound exactly the same as countless other bands.

And you are wrong if you think my strict attitude to metal is taking the enjoyment out of it for me - its the exact opposite in fact. The fact that Im harder to please than the average metalhead makes the "victory" that much sweeter when something blows me off my feet....instead of liking EVERYTHING and losing touch with what I really like, I enjoy and treasure those albums which do manage to impress me for a long long time.

Sorry too for going off-topic.

So anyway, yes I think the new Kalmah is very good and refreshing and a definite improvement over the past two albums - also, in my opinion, better than "They will Return".

Just hearing their whole discography again and I think The Black Waltz is most probably one of the best album ever made, in this genre. Suck a kick ass album, makes me want to go on a driving rampage or something lol.

These guys are really hit-and-miss for me. I really enjoyed their earlier works, then I started falling out of love with them when I listened to The Black Waltz; then For the Revolution came out and I was completely turned off, then 12 Gauge was released...and I'm pretty sure I have no interest in following these guys anymore.

Same here, I really didn't care too much after The Black Waltz, that album was sort of meh to me, but yeah... Their first three albums ARE good imo.

I love the new album. I still really love Swamplord and Swampsong (never thought They Will Return was all that great), but ever since they've dipped their toes into the thrash pool (since The Black Waltz) I think I've enjoyed their work even more. Great blend of head banging riffs and melody.

It's funny that the newest album was the one that completely turned you off of them, because that was the one that totally renewed my faith in them. I was really disappointed with Black Waltz and For the Revolution, but I thought 12 Gauge was a great blend of the new stuff they were trying to do with some of the stuff that made their first 3 albums so great.
