Amon Amarth - Reveal New Album Details, New Song And North America Tour

After releasing a teaser parody video, Swedish Vikings Amon Amarth have now officially announced their new album. The album will in fact be entitled Jomsviking and will be out on March 25th via Metal Blade Records (North America)/Sony Music (International). See the cover below and enjoy the video for the album's first single, "First Kill" produced by Grupa 13 and directed by Darek Szermanowicz (Behemoth). It was filmed in Gohrweide (Germany) and Warsaw (Poland) and features a cinematic depiction of the violent, brutal lyrics, along with powerful live footage of the band performing with their full dragon head and pyro stage-set.

Jomsviking is the band's first concept record in their storied career and tells a tragic tale of love and revenge, backed by the Swedes' trademark melodic, anthemic metal, which was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Accept) and also features special guest session drummer Tobias Gustafsson (Vomitory).

Tracks:

01. First Kill
02. Wanderer
03. On A Sea Of Blood
04. One Against All
05. Raise Your Horns
06. The Way Of Vikings
07. At Dawn's First Light
08. One Thousand Burning Arrows
09. Vengeance Is My Name (bonus track - for digibook, digital, LP, and viking ship editions)
10. A Dream That Cannot Be (featuring Doro Pesch)
11. Back On Northern Shores

Frontman Johan Hegg explains: "The Jomsvikings were a shadowy and legendary sect of Viking mercenaries, as shrouded in myth now as they were when they fought across Europe and the Middle East. Ruthless and deadly warriors who fought for the highest bidder, their code was simple: Show no fear. Never retreat. Defend your brothers, and when called upon, avenge their deaths. I felt we were finally ready to use their story as the jumping off point for an Amon Amarth album. The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she's being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens and he has to flee - but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He can't let go of the past. He feels that he's been wronged and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story."

So true... but I like this more than anything on the last album. I can't explain why.

According to Pulp Nation and Invisible Tangerines, the new album will feature a rich expansion of Amon Amarth's sound not quite like anything that has ever been done by them before. The band themselves consider this to be their most ambitious release yet, featuring new instruments such as sitar, banjo, marimba, harpsichord, didgeridoo, baglama, dulcimer, and many more. Additionally, the band have issued a statement in which they admit the irony resulting from the fact that their name is Amon Amarth, yet they are not a LoTR-themed band, and apologizing to their fanbase, promising "a Summoning death metal approach" for the new album which quotes extensively from The Silmarillion and other obscure Tolkien lore.

Of course the last couple of albums weren't that exciting, but I'll wait until the final product is out before judging. Most AA albums contain some hits worthy of attention.

Yeah it's pretty much like you say. Some songs are enjoyable, but nothing ever blows me away. I can't stand the vocals, but I suppose thats what they are all about . I'd rather have some wailing in the background.

Tune is the same old Amon Amarth and just as boring and uninspiring as the last couple of albums. These guys exemplify bland pedestrian meat and potato melodic death metal.

Amon Amarth r.i.p I was a huge fan been listening to them since 1996 (Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds EP) and all i can say is that the last good album for me was With Oden On Our Side . All the albums after that are crap.

Bla bla. Sorry guys but if all of you just dislike Amon Amarth then save your time commenting on them ! I like their latest albums and have followed them from the beginning. At the moment this track doesn't ring any good nor bad to me, it just doesn't appeal to me. Deceiver of the Gods IS a good opener, this one isn't (or maybe it is a grower, we'll see).

If Amon Amarth delivers good tracks as they've always done, I'll be happy.
