Blut Aus Nord - Releasing New Offering In October

Blut Aus Nord fanatics can rejoice as the French black metal duo has confirmed that their next offering is set to drop in October this year. This means that the wait is almost over for the follow-up to Memoria Vetusta III - Saturnian Poetry. Last year, the band revealed that they were working on two new albums, Memoria Vetusta - Empyreus and La Lumière Sous Le Monde. Now we have to wait to find out which one it is exactly. We'll keep you posted.

Or any MV for that matter, goddamn are they overrated albums. Same with the debut. It's not that the first two albums are bad or anything but they are not what makes BAN special.

Just like in most BaN threads, I'm gonna have to shed some light on certain misguided perceptions.

The MV series are freaking AWESOME (more so I, less so II). But only if you appreciate riff-fests in your BM, and quality meloblack, of course. If you don't like that, it's alright to not like them. Which doesn't prevent them from being the pinnacle of their respective (sub)genre. And not incompatible with the multiple BaN facets.

Misguided perceptions = The ones you don't agree with.

If I want meloblack with riffs I rather stick with the classics from Norway and leave it at that. I see nothing in BAN that puts them above the first albums by Enslaved or Satyricon. To each his own then.

I'm okay with occasional Memoria Vetusta releases, and even enjoy them a bit, but I feel like we need more time between them so he can make more albums with the actually interesting stuff, haha. i.e. less Memoria Vetusta and more stuff like What Once Was/777/MoRT/TWWTG/pretty much most of his other work.

The misguided perception by the MV fanboys is that people that don't l;ike them don't like riff fests in BM. I for one love riff fests in BM. Problem is that what BaN does with MV and their debut is they bring on the riff fests that have been done so much earlier by the Norwegian and even Swedish bands, thus making BaN's riff fests totally obsolete and redundant. It's okay what they deliver but nothing great.

I actually like MMII (It's one of my favorite BaN albums), but I never really paid enough attention to his first two albums, because the production in those albums is a real problem for me. To me, BaN really starts with TMBoR (which is one of my favorites as well - Top 2 or 3 actually - but no one seems to care about it). With that being said, I prefer his Industrial style much more.

The "misguided perception" comment was a joke as the internet tends to focus too much on "my opinion", "to each their own", "fanboy this and that", etc.... Just making a little fun off that

But regarding the MVs being like Norwegian/Swedish bands, I agree to some extent. It is similar, obviously, but doesn't make MVs a copy as they have a very specific sound, easy to recognise. When you look at II & III (less so I because of production), it starts to get far removed of the classic bands. It is way more uplifting/melodic/"light", and not only production wise. Can't really think of a Scandinavian band that would start a song with a riff such as the one on ... the Meditant, as an example of what II is in general.
And although it might be only me, but the really appealing thing of the MVs are the amount of solos and instrumental-riff-induced parts that don't really come close to another band (again, I'll take suggestions to know anyone that does it that well and frequently). Shit like the last few minutes on The Alcove of Angels, The Territory of Witches, Fathers of the Icy Age, Slaughterday or Paien is just on another level.
If it's a great riff-fest, why not like it? I tend to listen more than a bunch of bands when I really like a certain genre/type of music. Wouldn't voluntarily leave out a good album just because I already know "enough" bands, especially if they have a recognisable sound.

Still fine if anyone disagrees, as MS is usually hostile territory for these albums

Can't wait for this one. And to break from the theme of the thread, I completely hope it's the MV album. I've liked them all a lot, especially II.
