At The Gates - Reveal New Album Title And Release Date

Big news today from the Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates, who have just completed the recording process of their upcoming studio album with producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, The Haunted, Dimmu Borgir, etc.) at Parlour Studios in the UK. The album will be entitled To Drink From The Night Itself and it follows up 2014's acclaimed comeback release, At War With Reality. The worldwide release date will be May 18th, 2018 via Century Media Records.

Tomas Lindberg has checked in with the following comment: "We have wrapped up the recordings of the new record, and we are super psyched! It has been a smooth process, and very creatively fulfilling. All people that we have worked with on this project have stepped up to our vision of the final product, and we are very excited about the result.

"As you might have seen, we have worked with Russ Russel on this one, and he is really a master of getting the most intense takes out of us, and also has an ear for the rawness that we were after for this one. The vocals were recorded with Per Stålberg here in Gothenburg, and he always makes me deliver to a 100%. Right now we are getting the mastering done, and every new song that is bounced to us produces huge grins on our faces. This album sounds hungry and mean.

"The title of our new record will be To Drink From The Night Itself, and it is, again a conceptual record. More details about the concept will be revealed once the album is more on its way. But it connects with the deep roots of the band, and has connections with some of the themes on The Red In The Sky Is Ours.
"

At The Gates have also announced several more new shows for 2018 including a first club show of the year in Cologne, Germany (with Ultha and Nailed To Obscurity as supports) as well as various festivals like Pulp Summer Slam (The Philippines), Graspop (Belgium), Hellfest (France), Resurrection (Spain) or Summer Breeze (Germany). I felt AWWR was insanely safe, it's nice to hear the word "Raw" mentioned by one of the band, as I felt like that was the thing that was missing from it, at least from a production standpoint which was far too clean at least in my view.

This should be OK, just hope it isn't as safe

There was nothing wrong with At War With Reality. It was our expectations that were sky high. We expected that a new album after 19 years would blow the world away and create 2 new subgenres of metal, at least. What we got was another ATG album. If it was released 2 years after Slaughter of the Soul, it would have much better reception.

Now it seems they will go back to their oldest releases - the title of new album title would fit perfectly between their 1st and 2nd album.

Nothing wrong with it? Let me quote you on AWWR
Quote:
This album is a nice reminder of how good a band At the Gates used to be. Sadly, it's not nearly as good as their back catalogue. Still, a decent, albeit a tad uninspired listen. I'd rate it with a 6.8.

A tad uninspired I would call something wrong with it.

Opinions change Remember Drudkh's "A Handful of Stars"?
Anyway, my point stands - if it was a 1998 album, it'd get a higher rating

I completely agree with you! It just felt it was a little safe at least to me, however, it was after a 19-year wait and their last album before it was SOTS (If I remember rightly) I'll have to check it out again to refresh my memory on it

Well i have listened to old records of At The Gates, especially Slaughter of the soul to the point where it got imprinted into my DNA. I also loved At War With Reality.

Looking forward to the new album. I instinctively am sure that they will knock it out of the park !
