A great death band in my opinion. Great growls, and wow, that woman sounds so amazing!

So we agree on a few things
I also think that in the end it all comes down to personal taste indeed. Speaking of heavy metal influences, that friend of mine that thinks they have very thrashy riffs also thinks that they are very influenced by Megadeth in general, do you agree? I cant really tell cuz I only have 3 megadeth albums and I haven't thought about it seriously anyway.

Me neither actually, I think some of that thought is based on the song 'Burning Angel' people compare that riff too Megadeth's 'Hanger 18 ( or 17, I don't remember, Im not a megadeth fan meself ). So I can't really say, but I do remember Ammott saying in a interview or two that he is influenced by like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, and actually, also megedeth. I think that shows too.

Yes, michael amott says on the live apocalypse dvd that he was very influenced by slayer and it makes sense. But their backround surely comes from thrash and heavy metal. Other members have other influences, Angela likes Dismember for instance. Oh well... we all have our favourites.

^ Yes, a lot of the riffs from "Bury me an Angel" sound VERY Slayer-like. Daniel says on the website that if there's 1 album every metal-head should listen to, it's Reign In Blood.

So yeah, the band is influenced by Slayer.

I've yet to make up my mind about the whole "Burning Angel/Hangar 18" thang...

Hmm there's a poster in Kerrang of angela gossow. she's undoing a coat and all she has on underneath is a bra.
It's a nice poster, but It's seems to me like their trying to get more fans by how good looking she is instead of the music.

Maybe they just exploded because "Wages of Sin" was very good and people noticed that. Maybe it wasnt so much about the singer although I agree that adds new few to the band.

I think it's likely they are influenced by Megadeth, I mean they did cover Symphony of Destruction on the Dead Eyes EP. I bought the album with Hangar 18 last night so soon I'll get the chance to judge the comparisons for myself I sure would like to have that poster...

BloodTears' argument "because "Wages of Sin" was very good" I don't agree with as it seems to me the earlier stuff was of an equal or higher calibre; perhaps if you replaced "very good" with "slightly more poppy", but I definitely believe the popularity boost is mainly because of the female singer. Of course there's also the natural multiplication factor of having one more album under their belt, I mean (I assume) Metallica's popularity was boosted significantly higher from Ride to MoP and again from MoP to Justice.

You have GOT to scan that poster and send me the picture so that i can print it. We don't get Kerrang over here...
But so what if she's trying to look hot. If you got it flaunt it, right?

@ the person above; Mixed Reactions? 90% of people called it poppy, watered-down, stadium-metal.
Only 1 or 2 persons liked it.

Well, i'll get my copy of the album tomorow and decide for my self, you "true-metal-slightly-mainstream-hating-playas" !

Pretty good band, never really got into them but maybe I should. Angela is a little overated though, everyone regards her as the best woman growler but there are better woman growlers in metal.

But it is only OK band, because I don´t like the singer voice.
But I like the guitars.

Something I noticed on the discography for Arch Enemy here on Metal Storm: the Loud Park '06 live album. It sounds like it could be pretty good, but seeing as it's not on th eband's website, and having a had a look at the text on the front (in Japanese!) I'm guessing it's a Japan-only release, right?
