Just Some Strange Yet Raw Oriented Black Metal Albums

This is a list composed by what I think that is raw oriented black metal, but still only albums with a difference are allowed. Basically Atmospheric, Melodic (Not Symphonic), Experimental stuff. I give some brief explanation of what is so different about those albums. Some bands would deserve the entire discography mentioned, so I opted by putting only one album per band.
Some people tend to think that noise black metal is a very different approach to bm, but it's a well consolidated subgenre. Nothing really experimental or different about it. Same goes for raw oriented dsbm. I'm not gonna spam those subgenres unless something really unique is going on.
Moreover, actually the whole purpose of me making this list is getting more ideas of bands, which should appear on the comments, so start recommending stuff.

Created by: Karlabos | 19.02.2014

1. Ekpyrosis - Mensch Aus Gold
Must hear one-track Atmospheric Black Metal album.
2. The Meads Of Asphodel - Damascus Steel
Well, it's The Meads Of Asphodel. Do I really need to say anything?
3. Tjolgtjar - Under Command Of Tjolgtjar
Raw bm. Still, there's something odd about it
4. Urfaust - Der Freiwillige Bettler
Depressive Black Metal with clean? vocals
5. Arizmenda - Stillbirth In The Temple Of Venus
Pretty much well known among MS community. Very good though. Yeah I like this release more than the others, so what?
6. Antestor - The Return Of The Black Death
Black metal with subtle middle-eastern influences
7. Anubi - Kai Pilnaties Akis U?merks Mirtis
Black metal with lithuanian folk influences? I guess...
8. Seeds Of Iblis - Anti Quran Rituals
Raw and agressive bm with middle-eastern folk influences. To maximize the musical pleasure you must hear it with high volume on bad quality earphones.
9. Sigh - Hail Horror Hail
Most Sigh's releases are so out of boundary that they wouldn't be raw enough for this list. This album though, is both primitive and out of boundary.
10. De Magia Veterum - The Divine Antithesis
I guess you could say Technical Brutal Black Metal?
11. Dead Raven Choir - My Firstborn Will Surely Be Blind
Some time ago I asked on a certain forum which shall be nameless if there was such thing as country black metal. And now I'm hearing this and wondering: Why the hell no one told me about this!? If you're interested in such an atypical combination definitely check this out.
12. Dark Tribe - In Jeraspunta - Die Rückkehr Der Tollwütigen Bestie
Brutal/Experimental Black Metal
13. Jute Gyte - Discontinuities
Atmospheric Black Metal with VERY weird song (de)structures
14. Liturgy (US-NY) - Aesthethica
Many people hate this band but I'll include'em anyway. Sort of a technical black metal. Think of a less atmospherical Krallice
15. LIK - The Second Wind
DSBMed heavy metal? Heaviened dsbm? I don't know
16. Cult Of Fire - Triumvirát
Black Metal with some sinister elements.
17. Cultes Des Ghoules - Henbane
Attilaesque vocals. Large epic tracks. Very good.
18. Circle Of Ouroborus - Eleven Fingers
Black metal without harsh vocals/ sometimes without guitars/without black metal.
19. Chaos Moon - The Ouroboros Worm
Atmospheric Black Metal.
20. Brown Jenkins - Death Obsession
Atmospheric Black Metal with death growls and hypnotic riffing.
21. Botanist - IV: Mandragora
Acoustic Black Metal
22. Mystic Forest - Waltz In The Midst Of Trees
Really. ALL Mystic Forest's albums deserve listening. I'm just gonna put this to follow the 1 album per band rule. And I'm not saying because they are all slightly above average or has some bits interesting, no. really... LISTEN to it. All of them.
23. Magane - Beginning At The End (Yomotu Nolito)
Raw black metal with Asian folk influences.
24. Qulielfi - Forgetter
Drone-ish black with some folk elements. Like a more lo-fi version of Menace Ruine's early stuff.
25. Eikenskaden - The Black Laments Symphonie
Project of the same guy of The Skaden. Not as weird, but still worth a shot. Loled at "There are 666 trees on my forest" track title.
26. Raate - Menetyksen Tie
Melodic Black Metal with mostly clean vocals
27. Torturium - Misanthropic Angels Burning Winds
Straightforward Black Metal with the highlight: Vocalist. So you think Silencer's vocals are weird? Might as well give a spin on this.
28. Totale Vernichtung - Feuerberstattung
Legend says that isn't NSBM. Anyway, it's a punk-oriented Black Metal. Vocals are also pretty weird. Vocalist inhales the gutturals.
29. The Skaden - You Will Hope I Had Died
This band is weird. It still fits on the Melodic Black Metal tag though. Perhaps Avant-Garde?
30. Inchiuvatu - Via Matris
This is how "folk black metal" should be done.
31. Ordo Coquatrix - MMXI
Sort of an industrial noise raw black metal
32. Preuve Spectrale - Le 13 Septembre
Raw yet evil, profound yet simple.
33. Puritas Virginum - Décenie de Souffrance
Black Metal with some subtle disco elements
34. Aasdgoihasdghexekul - Demo Noir
Experimental Black Metal
35. Astral Oath - European Heritage
Atypical raw bm where the reverb on the vocals make everything sound a bit more cryptic.
36. Azar - Izorane
Garage produced black metal with amazigh folk influences. (no i didnt mystype amazing, amazigh folk is a kind of folk) Harsh vocals here sound like a very hungry stomach or something, but still interesting in a certain way.
37. Absentia Lunae - Historia Nobis Assentietvr
Oh no.. Karlabos is recommending NSBM, let's call the cops.
38. Anomaly In Effigy - Holy Mother, Sacred Whore
Kind of a raw bm with those old doom metal riffs.
39. Sewer - Satanic Requiem
raw black metal which is a bit... Weird
40. Semen Drenched Slave Of The Devil - Anal Destroying Angel
AWKWARD
41. Somnolence (US-CA) - Lese Majesty
black metal with a cello.
42. Spear of Longinus - Nazi Occult Metal
Other nsbm band. But I can't help if there's some interesting raw bm on that scene. This one sounds both terrible and interesting. Somehow it could be classified as "black rock" instead of black metal.
43. Spite Extreme Wing - Vltra
Upbeat catchy Black Metal.
44. Satan's Almighty Penis - Into The Cunt Of Chaos
Pretty well-done Experimental Black Metal.
45. Sancta Poenas - De Dekadentas Dikter
Slightly Depressive Black Metal. With some poems read along the songs.
46. Drottnar - Welterwerk
Technical Black Metal
47. Klevelta - Demo
The highlight here is of course the vocals
48. Loss Of Self - Twelve Minutes
Upbeat Depressive Black Metal (with western influences?)
49. Xexyz - Primeval Mountain
NES based black metal with chiptunes and stuff. I detected some covers by nes songs... I wonder if all of them are?
50. Vediog Svaor - In The Distance
"Progressive black metal". Whenever this combination of words is pronounced I think about clean produced and quite organized stuff such as say, Enslaved. But never thought of it like... This
51. Botulistum - Göll - Split
I would really rather not recommend splits here, but damn! You must hear this.
52. Book Of Sand - Destruction, Not Reformation
Black Metal with middle eastern infucences. (I think it's middle eastern)
53. Blue Hummingbird On The Left - Bloodflower
Raw/Noise Black Metal with Aztec influences
54. Blitzkrieg Krieger - Odio Es Nuestra Consigna, Venganza Nuestro Grito De Guerra
Unfortunately this 14 minute demo is the longest record of this band. It's good nsbm with catchy riffs and weird but suiting vocals
55. Blood Cult - We Are The Cult Of The Plains
Country black metal?
56. Black Albatross - The Green Walls
Some kind of raw doom/black with clean vocals.
57. Niding - Afgudaskymning
Sounds a bit like Urfaust, but still has its own sound.
58. Nokturnal Mortum - Hехристь / NeChrist
Although they're more recognized for their sympho/pagan metal works, this is very raw. And upbeat. What is a rare combination.
59. Medo - Cruzando Os Portais Do Submundo
ambient? black metal
60. Myling - Sotpuke
Trve low-fi Black Metal also with the differential that it has clean vocals.
61. Misogi
Atmo-Black with asian folk influences.
62. Mourir Et Revenir - Pourquoi Ces Sanglots?
raw bm with huh... disco infuences.
63. Maze Of Cako Torments - The Demonic Songs of Yellow Water
Weird and good. I wish I could find a copy of this, if anyone knows send me a PM or something...
64. Manierisme - Everyone Has Two Sides
Slightly strange Raw Black Metal.
65. Mamaleek - Kurdaitcha
Almost low-fi Black Metal with Indie Rock influences

Seeing as you have Blue Hummingbird on the Left, you could easily add a whole bunch of other Black Twilight Circle / Crepusculo Negro bands:

I like most of records I know on this list but am not sure what's "Raw Oriented Black Metal". Do you mean raw black metal? In that case, I don't think FoS and LoC and many more are raw.

Once you're in the mood for that raw but psychedelic approach to black metal you can pretty much click on any of those and get something good. The death metal ones and one doom band is also fantastic.

Actually neither I know how to explain it well. I just wanted to avoid subgenres like symphonic, industrial, arcturesque avant-garde black metal which sure also have different releases, but not exactly what I want to list here.
Even though the bands here are not exactly raw I feel like they are "closer" to raw black metal than symphonic/industrial/etc black metal bands are. So I guess it's a list of different but not too far away from raw bm albums.
Probably there's a better term for it, though.

I'm trying to avoid symphonic, industrial, keyboard full avant-garde bm bands. This list is of bands which can be different without appealing to atypical instruments or strange genre blends.
Nothing wrong with Arcturus, though. I like The Masquerade Infernale ^~^

Coldworld DSBM? I only know their debut but it's melodic ambient BM and not DSBM at all. If the album you have here is the same style then it's also not DSBM. Verdunkeln's debut is psychedelic BM I'd say, but it's no big deal. Awesome album in any case, like just Brown Jenkins' Death Obsession (which is also avantgarde).

Anyway, nice list. I know most of the MS featured albums but barely any of the albums that aren't featured on MS.

Actually it's largely considered DSBM by many people. Not sure I'd necessarily agree with them though.

Yeah, black metal like this is really the best of the genre to me: stuff that retains that hardcore, aggressive sound while also trying out some really bizarre elements as well. Always good for bands to strike a good balance between the familiar and the unconventional.

Might I recommend...
1. The Meads Of Asphodel - Damascus Steel. Raw as fuck, but also digs deep into some techno elements as well as Middle Eastern percussion with a heavy tribal flavor. Probably my favorite black metal band and this IMO is their best work.
2. Tengger Cavalry - Blood Sacrifice Shaman. Chinese black metal. Pretty much a really orthodox feel, but the riffs definitely suggest an Eastern feel, and they use throat singing too
3. Angst Skvadron - Sweet Poison. Harsh, but also really psychedelic and surprisingly groovy too. Kinda like a heavier version of Oranssi Pazuzu.

I don't really care for black metal in this period. I am still doom fanatic and I'm trying to listen to some melodic death at the moment, Black metal is next maybe..
