KB's Favorite Albums Of All Time (Only Metal)
Here is my provisional favorite-metal-albums-of-all-time-list! Enjoy!
The first 10 albums are in pretty accurate order. However, after that, it becomes harder and harder to separate the albums clearly. Thus, you can say that I enjoy album x on the list as much as the others in the interval of (x-5) to (x+5). For example album 37 would be as much enjoyed as 32, 33, 34, ..., 42, or something like that. |
1.
Cult Of Luna - Somewhere Along The Highway
2.
Disillusion - Back To Times Of Splendor
3.
Grand Alchemist - Intervening Coma-Celebration
4.
Opeth - Blackwater Park
5.
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory |

2010, Or: I Must Have A Complete Set, Dammit.
Welcome to Hell. Or the NHK. Or another list. Publishing order: 3. Chronological order: 1.
The same rules and regulations apply as for 2011/2. It will be a short list. It wasn't a good year. I think. I actually don't know, you see. Read the comments to gauge my enthusiasm. It's good exercise for my 2013 list. Which I would totally make if I heard at least one metal album. January is nearly over. No metal. Weak, dude. |
1.
Carach Angren - Death Came Through A Phantom Ship
2.
Deathspell Omega - Paracletus
3.
Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini
4.
Ghost - Opus Eponymous | |

My Desert Island Discs
Based on the original BBC radio program from 1942 that asked "if you were to be cast away alone on a desert island, which eight gramophone records would you choose to have with you, assuming of course, that you had a gramophone and an inexhaustible supply of needles".
Pretty f&rkin' hard to choose just eight albums but I've given it a go. Hope it never happens because I'd probably get sick of these awesome albums after just a few weeks - then what!? |
1.
Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
2.
Faith No More - The Real Thing
3.
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
4.
Alice in Chains - Dirt | |

Iron Recommends: A Metal Selection
Yep, one of those lists. Everyone has one, so I thought I'd make a list of metal albums I really recommend.
This is not an absolute "best-of" list, for a few reasons:
1) I stick to one album per band, unless there's been a drastic style shift (like Katatonia's).
2) I try to cover all major subgenres fairly, so I have something for everyone. It counterbalances the tendency to list all the cool bands in a style I'm into right now (like drone or epic doom). |
1.
Warning - Watching From a Distance
2.
Candlemass - Nightfall
3.
Reverend Bizarre - In The Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend
4.
Pagan Altar - The Lords Of Hypocrisy
5.
Katatonia - Dance of December Souls |

The Best Of Unconventional Black Metal
Within the past decade, black metal has seen bands from all over the world incorporating new sounds to the style and changing its delivery like never before. As great as the classic acts are, BM bands today seem to be branching out in every possible direction. From the beautiful chaos of the French bands to the psychedelic dabblings of the Finns to the atmospheric scene out West in the U.S... all the experimentation is helping to create a new identity for the genre. So, in no particular order, here are some of the best releases from this growing trend of originality within black metal's foundations (atmospheric, psychedelic, black doom, and otherwise). |
1.
Deathspell Omega - Fas - Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum
2.
Blut Aus Nord - MoRT | |
3.
Diapsiquir - Virus STN | |
4.
Glorior Belli - The Great Southern Darkness
5.
Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini |

Songs For Your Metal Party
This is my personal selection of albums (with specific songs) that you'd like to play in your next metal party.
The songs are sorted so the more powerful and energetic songs are equally spread all along the list, except the last songs, which are softer than average.
I'm currently working in this list (well... in my spare time), so it's not the final one. |
1.
Unexpect - Fables of the Sleepless Empire
2.
Korpiklaani - Karkelo | |
3.
Solefald - Norrøn Livskunst
4.
Mastodon - Crack The Skye
5.
Kvelertak - Blodtørst |

Crushing (Not For The Faint Of Heart)
A little list of albums that have been kicking my ass as of late. Some albums on this list may appear to be "odd" choices, but "crushing" in this context does not necessarily mean heavy. It could be referring to the emotional intensity of the release or the literal heavy pounding sound. Hope you enjoy. |
1.
Esoteric - The Pernicious Enigma
2.
Ahab - The Divinity Of Oceans
3.
Agalloch - The Mantle | |
4.
Warning - Watching From A Distance
5.
Ulcerate - The Destroyers Of All |

Enslaved In Order.
Enslaved's career can be distributed in five different eras:
The first era consists of the first three albums, namely Vikingligr Veldi (1994), Frost (1994) and Eld (1997). All these albums are important releases in Viking Metal's history and they have defined some musical aspects for the whole genre. |

2.

3.
Enslaved - Eld | |
4.
