Top 50 Epic Songs (10+ Minutes)

My top 50 favourite tracks that are 10 minutes or greater. The list probably changes order depending on my mood, but I'm pretty happy with this one. I have left out songs from some big prog rock bands like Rush, Eloy and Pink Floyd. I didn't want to limit each band to 1 song as many of them have far too many "epic" tracks to ignore.

1. Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II
2. Lost Horizon - A Flame To The Ground Beneath
3. Virgin Steele - Invictus
4. Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings
5. While Heaven Wept - Vast Oceans Lachrymose

100 Greatest Metal Bands

Pretty self-explanatory, with a couple caveats: first, this is mostly just a list of my favorite metal bands in approximate order (after the top 10 or so the order matters far less), with extra weight given to influence and timelessness of sound; and second, the albums selected are not necessarily the band's "best" album, or even my personal favorite -- they are the albums that I feel best represent the band's classic sound and/or well-represent the span of their career. List includes all sub-genres of metal and some post-metal metal. Feel free to spew your hatred below. \m/ (xx) \m/

1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
2. Iron Maiden - Powerslave
3. Metallica - Master Of Puppets
4. Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance
5. Slayer - Reign In Blood

Best Metal Vocalists

*** /\ UNDER CONSTRUCTION /\ *** READ ME *** List of the best metal vocalists across all subgenres. The album that best exhibits their vocals will represent them -- not necessarily the best album they appear on. I will limit myself to the very top of each sungenre (i.e. death, black, doom, etc.) for variety's sake. Also -- AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT -- I consider several criteria, not just raw talent. Some of the criteria are vocal range, versatility, command of voice, fit/compatibility with band, feeling/emotion/energy and originality. Feel free to bitch and moan below. \m/

1. Judas Priest - Painkiller
2. King Diamond - Abigail
3. Savatage - Gutter Ballet
4. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
5. Iron Maiden - Powerslave

The BEST of The WORST Classic Metal Albums

I realize the importance of these albums to the genres, and the influence they have had. however I do not find these albums really that great and pleasurable due to the competition and elimination through these decades of musical evolution. I respect these bands for releasing something so creative, conceptual and also brought us to the new dimension in the past.

1. Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
2. Amorphis - Tales From The Thousand Lakes
3. Anthrax - Among The Living
4. Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God
5. Accept - Restless And Wild

Top 40 Albums That Blow My Poseur Mind

To walk the path of the metal poseur is to pick the plumpest of mainstream fruits and succour the sweet secretions contained within. It is the art of walking with giants of mainstream underground extremism whilst maintaining one foot firmly on the part of pop monumentalism.

The path is dangerous for the faux fur of metal consumerism is a tempting demon whore that claws at the inner self of underground triumphalism. These are the eagles that soar through the mind galleries of every metal poseur, no matter how compartmentalised their singularity may be.

1. Alice In Chains - Dirt
2. Anthrax - Volume 8 - The Threat Is Real
3. Artillery - By Inheritance
4. Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side
5. Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle-Earth
