Symphonies Of Sickness FAQ

1.- First of all?Is this really Carcass's Best work ever?
R. Well, in an objective way?yes it is, the response may vary due to the different musical tastes, but this album was and is still one of the greatest albums in Death/Grindcore Metal, not only because of the incredible music, but also due to the historical endeavor that "Symphonies Of Sickness" has; this album influenced a lot of bands, including Exhumed, The County Medical Examiners, Impaled, Disgorge, Stoma, etc. Carcass evolved the way to write lyrics, to present an album artwork, a way that people has to love or hate, a way that was and is still copied by many bands all over the globe.

This is the heaviest album I own, by far. I can't believe just 3 human beings make all that racket. It's so amazing that each song has it's own moment and melody. So close to giving this album a 10...

Its funny that both Carcass' 2nd and 4th albums act like a bridge between the albums that came before and after it.

If it wasnt for a couple of filler tracks, "Symphonies..." would be a huge challenger for their best album ever. (My fave is "Necroticism...") The album's sound is still sick and disgusting like their debut, but this time you can actually hear the riffs. lol And despite the brutality of the album, there are a spattering of neat melodic moments here and there to show they were more than just a run of the mill grind band. ("Embryonic Necropsy And Devourment" being the most melodic song on the album, and a definite precursor to the "Necroticism" stuff) And had genuine musical talent. This one, probably even more than the debut, is probably the hugest influence on the goregrind genre, and still towers head and shoulders above most albums put out in that genre today. Definitely a classic album, and one that still sounds great now. <3

Got Mayhem?

An absolutely disgusting and dirty album. Love it. It's the musical equivalent of swimming in a pool of corpses. Except the 'pool' is a morgue which you filled yourself. And instead of 'swimming' you're dissecting everything in site with huge rusty bonesaws and scalpels. And you're loving every bit of it.

True. Fucking. Goregrind/Grindcore/Death metal/ whatever everyone is calling it these days.

The best grindcore album in existence.

So many goregrind bands have attempted to better this album, but none have succeeded. What makes this album so great, is that for all it's brutality and sickness, if you scratch the surface, there is a level of class, and flair with craftmanship that most other Carcass-inspired bands lack. There's many individual songs that are highly memorable, and even catchy, in a very dark and macabre way. This album is probably one of the most imitated albums in existence, yet none of the imitators have managed to match it's malevolant brilliance!

This release is absolutely great, I wasn't expecting much but upon the first listen I loved it ! Everything, the vpcals, drumming, guitar tone is just great, the bass is somewhat lacking but I don't really mind because the rest is just so great

My favorite deathgrind album of all time, and Carcass' best (and apparently most underappreciated) release

This still holds up as one of the most sickest and brutal albums ever released, it makes Cannibal Corpse sound tame. A massive improvement on the production and sound from their debut, with excellent growls on this one, and Bill Steer is a great vocalist too.

Even though Carcass and this album must have inspired tons of bands all around the world, I can't think of any other record that sounds exactly like Symphonies Of Sickness. There's just something very unique about it.

Easily their best, a great blend of their goregrind sound with thrashing death metal. Forget melodeath, THIS is what Carcass is!
