After Slipknot's first two albums blew us away with their high level of sheer violence, their third album "The Subliminal Verses" had evolved to a much more melodic and mature sound, but still keeping much of that brutality that Slipknot is (was) praised for. It's safe to say that their fourth release "All Hope Is Gone" continues that path. It's still Slipknot, yet it's very, very different to the work that first made them famous.

I dont know if its just my tastes in music but im personally thinking slipknots 1st 2 albums were BY FAR their best and have been going downhill since Iowa, I mean Subliminal Wasnt that amazing to me and this one just donest have that many songs that jump out at me like they used to, like Psychosocial is really to me the only memorable track, the rest just kind of blends in to much, i dont know thats just how i hear it

Nope. Isn't.

Of course they are. I see your big fat 1 next to the album though so I'm assuming there's some self-deception going on here.

I'm gonna save you some time and point out the fact that he's 15.

I hadn't actually spotted that

Ah, I remember my rebellious 15 year old phase of not finding nu metal to actually be metal. Oh wait, no I don't, I was still listening to The Corrs when I was 15.

Slipknot was one of the first metal bands I discovered at 15 come to think of it, which was initially brought on by listening to Linkin Park, Evanescence, Seether, and Staind. At the time it was probably the heaviest band I had ever heard, along with Disturbed, Static-X, System of a Down, and Marilyn Manson. Then I ventured into stuff like Cradle of Filth, Pantera, Insomnium, Amon Amarth, Cannibal Corpse, and my first real underground discovery: Graveworm...

The point being, Slipknot is definitely a metal band. Say what you want about their influences, image, or quality, but their earlier stuff is a shining example of popular metal. At 15 it's more of a "fitting in" kind of thing though. The kids at school will make fun of you if you don't listen to true metal these days I guess.

The debut is a definite classic, and there's some good stuff on here. I really like Snuff.
The big question is: How are Slipknot not metal?

Transparently, for some people, even Tool are not metal.

More of an argument to be made there though. Tool definitely straddle the lines.

Slipknot's debut is killer, and a definite classic. And people who think that Slipknot "aren't metal" are just sheep who obviously know very little about metal at all.

Joe's right about Tool. Whether or not they are metal is far less of a clear cut case than Slipknot.

You are really mature, oh.
So, if someone don't like this shit, is because that person is a "trve" and not because there are better music to be listened in the genre?

You and the other attacked me because I say that album is not metal?
Ok, I say that because of the simple objective of this album. And even if that is "Metal" (not even close) you don't have the right to attack someone here.

You can not like whatever you want, I'm not the opinion police. And I agree there is definitely better music to be heard, considering this album is a bit of a dud. No disagreement there.

If you feel attacked because people questioned your opinion in an online forum then maybe the internet isn't the place for you, friend. I hate playing the age card because I've been 15 before obviously and understand the hypocrisy of ageism but you're really letting your teenage insecurity show here. I have the right to quote you just as you have the right to quote me and state our respective opinions. Nothing personal.

As for stalking, you might wanna look up the definition of that one. I merely looked at your profile for two seconds.

I noticed that you had Sirenia and another similar band in your profile bands before you deleted them. I assume you regard them as metal, so I'm curious to know why you don't think Slipknot are? I'm not saying they aren't metal but from my perspective Slipknot embody metal far more than those kind of bands do.

That English gave me gonorrhea.

Just wanted to point that out, without adding anything to the debate about Slipknot being metal or not. I had thought bashing them just to look cool would die down now that the band is almost inactive, but I guess not...

This is probably their grooviest and catchiest album, the riffs were more melodic, and the vocals were softer, the overall sound seemed slightly softer too, and their were one or two radio friendly songs. Although it seemed that they had lost alot of their former aggression they had from previous albums.
This album was a little less chaotic, but with that, they lost a part of their aggresive character that made them big. Corey Taylor also showed that he was a decent singer, when he wasn't bellowing it out in anger.

The beginning of the album I found much better, as is usual with a Slipknot album, there are some songs I found pretty good like "Sulfur", "Psychosocial", and "Dead Memories". "Snuff" isn't a bad song either, that's probably my favourite song on the album, but nothing else really stands out for me.

This is the worst Slipknot album in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean it's bad because it certainly isn't, it's just the least good. While there are so many classics on here, the rest is just forgettable filler and overall this album feels the least expressive and unique
