Steven Wilson's move away from straight-forward prog rock in his main line of albums finally yields actual great results.

Lmao yeah I'm very observant today. but seriously I don't think contrast works, at least to my eyes.

Nothing in this cover art works, it is absolute garbage my friend. We agree. I suppose
we can only hope the music is better?

After two lackluster albums, this one might be the best after Hand. Cannot. Erase.

Staircase is pretty good and I always enjoy songs that feature Ninet, but as a whole the album isn’t on the level of HCE or anything prior. Still a good album, he clearly put a ton of effort into this.

Surprised to see the high rating here. This album feels like a whole lot of nothing again. Generic beats repeated over songs that are way too long, with experimental oohs and aahs and pops and noise. The song with Ninet is good, but not much else is.

I thought it was pretty good, though at times I couldn't tell whether it was ambitious or pretentious.

I think it’s some of Wilson’s best work, but if you’re looking for Porcupine Tree or prog rock it’s not really there and so I’m not surprised that it’s not for everyone.

Still, I think it’s ambitious, creative, and dripping with atmosphere. I’ll need further listens to decide for sure, but right now I honestly think it might be the best thing Steven has done since Raven.

I wouldn't say it's amazing, but damn was I totally absorbed in this, I really appreciated the different direction he was going for here, it made for a very unique listening experience. Something I would love to listen to on a hifi setup.

Unfortunately this just solidifies for me that we'll never get another H.C.E but, that's a once in a lifetime album anyhow. This is definitely better than his past 2 for me though

There's a couple of songs that feel a bit underwhelming, but for the most part it's a really well-made modern prog rock album - I'd rank it above the last couple SW releases, and the Porcupine Tree comeback album as well

I’ve given up on Wilson. He just hasn’t released a good album since Fear of a Blank Planet and even the actual PT reunion album was dookie, to say nothing of his solo work. This album sounds just as pretentious as the Yes ripoff album cover indicates.

Dude should just stick with remastering classic prog rock albums. He’s fantastic at that at least.
