The best Black Metal album of 2004

Staff review by
Enslaved is one of those few bands out there that is getting better and better after every release. Their music, while it keeps its roots, is developing towards complete perfection.

The new album pretty much follows the footsteps of their previous album Below the Lights, but even better and more complete. For all of you who have not heard Below the Lights and Enslaved´s earlier work (is that even possible for a black metal fan?) I must warn you that this is not one of your typical "grim" or "necro" black metal albums. So if that is what you are searching for, just something that is trOO and all that stuff, then please, don't waste your time here because trust me, this is not what you are looking for. This album is for a bit more, well let's say; "mature" fans of black metal.

A very interesting album given that it is supposedly the band's 'breakthrough' album in a lot of people's eyes. 'Lunar Force', 'Return to Yggdrasil' and the sprawling 'Neogenesis' are all staples of the band's creative talents, but it's really the atmosphere that was previously provided on albums like 'Mardraum' and 'Monumension' that truly makes 'Isa' the stunning work it is.

I know I'm a bit of a latecomer on this album (considering it was released in 2004) but having just digested it I have to comment that I feel it to be an outstanding achievement by an amazing group of musicians.

Yes, it's a masterpiece. I remember wandering Metal Storm's hallways near the time I first joined and wanted to try out black metal. After a bunch of research I think I ended up trying Transylvanian Hunger and this album. Probably a wise decision as I've never gotten bored of this.

I've listened to this album hundreds of times since I first got it, and each time I listen to it, I still have to say "wow" at the end. Fucking great.

"Return to Yggdrasil" and "Neogenesis" are both incredible. Makes up my top 3 Enslaved albums with AEO and Below The Lights, although still need to check out Ruun and everything from Monumension and earlier

Bad English
THis album and basically song Isa is why I know band, I remember video. Now I say like this, if you play so prog sounding, band needs use more clean vocals, as grows, its not BM anymore as it was and don't requires growling.
Life is to short for LOVE, there is many great things to do online !!!

After all these years I have finally realized that the guest singer in Lunar Force is... Abbath. He sounds so much not like himself in this song.

How do you know that?
