Plummeted into an aeon of mirth dearth, drenched with swollen bleak ridges of desolation and barren emotions, devoid of all humane affections and abandoned at a very young age in a cold merciless world: these were the events that marked the yarn of a possessed youth of seventeen who, in despair, forged with his own blood what had become later a depressive black metal icon creeping to the name Shining.

Rating: 7 Good album but it's obvious it was their first. The songwriting is lacking a bit and the atmosphere isn't as opressive so it does't really represent what the band became shortly after. Still a good album to listen to from time to time though!

A DSBM Gem

Rating: 9 Hmmm this was my first Shining album actually, it was instant love. I don't think the songwriting is lacking (I would actually say that this album is more focused than any other album from them) and Kvarforth was already good with his throat at this point. The only complain I would have with this is that it sounds dirtier than their next albums but that's understandable considering that this is their debut.

Well, I think it's lacking since it simply does not justify its length at all. This should have been like 10-15 mins shorter. Or even an tight EP and the riffs could go on an on but without a clear way to finish the track so I dont get a hypnotizing feeling or whatever but more of a "so... you done?"
I'm sure I should revisit it a couple of more times before passing judgement but I end up thinking "why try with this one when you can instantly love II through V"?

EDIT: On second note... the riffs are still pretty sick which isn't as clear when I'm in the buss compared to this moment at home alone with headphones.
