So, apparently the AFL had to pay a fee to Warner Bros because the new AFL team will be called the Tasmanian Devils, just because WB thinks they own global copyright to the name of an animal
Got the cd in my hands and the bandname tips its hat to a classic Gorguts album, the logo is reminiscent of the classic Obituary logo and the cover art is futuristic depicting something cosmological. Conclusion: This must be a technical death metal band. And, lo and behold, it is. What band and album am I talking about? Obscura's sophomore album Cosmogenesis, of course.
First track is phenomenal, the rest of the tracks have inconsistent quality imo, but that's considering I enjoyed the first track because it's heavily melody-based.
Very good album indeed although it does lack consistency in certain areas. It's seriously technical for sure, but also quite melodic, and the musicianship is obviously top notch. The riffs are decent and all but the drumming is fantastic, and that fretless bass work is easily the best thing about this album for me, it's just outstanding!
I often thought Beyond Creation's Aura had the best bass work in death metal but now I'm not so sure whether it could be this I also hear alot of Cynic influences in this too, but Obscura take tech death to another level imho.
Listen to first fragment if you haven't already, last year's album was mind blowing (and it's the same bass player as beyond creation)
I've not listened to that one yet, but I will do at some point. Lapointe is a phenomenal bass player so knowing his the bassist for First Fragment's release last year makes me want to listen to it all the more. thanks for recommending it to me
