Maybe if this album was shorter it could have been an awesome release, it has all the material that brought attention to the band. They wasted the oportunity to use those nice oriental elements that you can hear in some songs (for example in "Fall To Rise"), the idea was great but they didn't used them at their max point. On the other side, I liked the lyrics a lot.

BTW the Cacophony cover is a FUCKING KILLER!!! My favorite song from the album.

Blistering album. Best of 2010 for me, beside Gorod's Process of a New Decline.

you don't know what you're talking about. I've seen them yesterday at Metalfest Open Air in Hungary and they played the best show on the whole festival, even though I had my problems with the clean vocals too.

I saw them live and they were really bad. No flow going. All over the place. Couldn't make their minds up as what sort of music they wanted to play, it seems.

Quite overcomplicated album. Persefone doesn't make it easy for listener and it's not very good. They shoud be more humble in songwriting next time. But even thought after some time I was smashed by the power of their vision, transformed in genuine, multilayered music entwined by rich palette of emotions.
Well, good old Persefone hasn's disappear.
And drummer is still flawless, too:gunner:

In retrospect, I like this better than Core. *Gasp*
Better riffs, more interesting ideas and the lyrics kick serious ass. Plus, it certainly sounds more technical and there are enough nuances to last for hundreds and hundreds of listens. They use power metal influences sparingly and have a very groovy drive on this album, with satisfying progressive metal riffs. Rage Stained Blade's early riffs are just mind-blowing. Try NOT headbanging to that song. And Purity...how PERFECT is that song? Who would have predicted this kind of album after Core?
I sure hope I find someone in my lifetime that agrees with me on how monumental this album was. The style of the band inspired many imitations (including Whispered) and I think this will remain my top metal album of 2009. Absolutely stellar.

This album is awesome. I like all the tracks except "Purity" with the clean vocals. The piano parts are fantastic too.

Purity is pretty stellar, and is juxtaposed very nicely with the instrumental interlude and Rage Stained Blade.

I think it's an average song compared to the rest of songs, maybe i need to give it more listens!

I love Purity, it's a great change from the rest of the album, although his cleans sound a bit weaker here than usual (I really enjoy them); maybe the extra prominence shows up his limitations. But favourite for the album would probably be Fall To Rise, cannot get enough of it; Kusanagi and the Shin Kens are pretty awesome too.

Well, the song isn't bad but IMHO the clean vocals ruined it. Generally i love that album and the songs you mentioned are spectacular. The clean vocals in Shin Ken II are awesome btw!

I can understand that; to be honest, whilst I still love the song, it has fallen down slightly in my estimations from each time I've heard it and noticed the moments where the vocals are found to be a bit lacking. And I find it strange considering how, on this album and Spiritual Migration, I don't have any reservations about the cleans and get excited every time they pop up.

Yeah they did a better job in all other clean vocals! And I didn't like the song from the beginning but i gave this album a 10 because it deserves approval. Honestly a 9 would be more reasonable!

I actually think I initially gave the album a 10 just because I was so overwhelmed by it (and wasn't expecting it, cos I listened to Core just before and found it very good, but not in the same league), but then changed to 9 after repeated listens showed up slight flaws (plus Spiritual Migration came along and matched it, so felt I had to even out my scores).

Theory Snob
All their core (pun intended) elements are present with a sound more akin to prog-power with harsh vocals. It's a sound they would perfect on the next three albums, but the second part of the title track reminds of the best from those records. Probably my least favourite of all their albums, which means it's still great.
