I just noticed rumors about it on one czech metal blog...they said that Turisas is recording this new album right now

There's a video on the band's official website where the singer (forgot his name...) talk about the new album. It's been around for quite some time now.

First spin over. At the beginning I was a bit like "okey, pretty good but not really what I was looking for" and now when the whole record is finally over, i'm not anymore sure where I'm at. Somewhere in Bosphorus?

I find it very interesting. It's different from what they did before and I find it refreshing.
The symphonic "film score" aspect is omnipresent but it's not a bad thing IMO since it's well done.
Some very nice guitar work from time to time but after the first spin, i'm not blown away. It's a nice album, no more, no less.
I'll wait before rating this album.
BTW, Fear the Fear might be the best track of this album. For me at least

Less heavy, yes - but that's not a bad thing. I've listened to this in full five or six times now and I actually think this may be their best. It's a lot more focused and seems to flow better than BM and TVW, in my opinion.

It's a decent album but very cheesy and the execution of the concept is pretty flawed. The album sounds like a bad 80ties musical, yet at the same time it's just as amusing. Except "fear the fear" the lyrics of that song are so bad. The orchestra is cool but you have to fuck up hard to screw up orchestras. All in all a decent album but at the same time flawed.

I only listened to one song "The Great Escape" which has been put online and I can say that 8.2 is not enough just for that song, I'm sure that the other songs are as good as The Great Escape so this album is underrated.

How the fuck can you say it's underrated, when you heard only one song?
I know fanboys have a history of unbelievable retardation but this probably takes the cake.

After listening to all the songs, I admit I was wrong, it is not underrated, I think 8 is fair.
But I say it again that the song "The Great Escape" is great, it is the most beautiful song I have ever heared in my life, I was sedused by that song.

I think that this album lacks heaviness. Some songs are terrific like Venetoi Prasinoi and The Great Escape, but they're so full of orquestrations and fanfarre that sometimes it feels like i'm listening to the viking version of Nightwish and Rhapsody.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good album. But no doubtely it would be far better with more focus on the guitars. Some songs are immersed in orquestrations that you must make an actual effort to hear the guitars, and by the way, the vocals. The vocals often lack power like in the title-track.
The greatest triumph in this album are the choruses. Catchy and glorious Manowar-like choruses that forces me to sing them everytime i put the album on.
It's a fair 7 for me.
P.s. - Oh and i love the front cover!

There's parts of this album that really make me cringe because of how blatantly cheesy it is. But Venetoi Prasinoi and The Great Escape were great, so it was hard to rate. Moonsorrow's new album has spoiled me into having extremely high standards for epic metal. I would have rated it a 6, but the songs noted really were awesome.

I'm a bit disappointed... the album never gets "exciting", it's the same conan the barbarian soundtrack again and again. It's not a bad album but they can do so much better. Take the day is the best track in my opinion, after that I start to lose attention

there is no folk/pagan/viking/heathen/whatevaa metal that is not cheesy. Ensiferum is maybe my favorite band but c'mon, they sing about dragons and elves

There are lots of folk metal bands that are not cheesy at all. Dig a little deeper beyond Finntroll and Korpiklaani and you'll find very dark and melancholy folk metal with no happy clappy melodies or clichéd "viking" imagery.

A folk metal band that plays cheerful music is as cheesy as a darker wannabe deep band.... imo

I guess Moonsorrow would be one of the handful of bands that can actually make Viking/Folk metal not sound cheesy. But ya, this album definitely is cheesy in some areas. But equally grand in most other parts.

Sweeney Todd is kinda good... for a musical. "The Great Escape" definitely sounds like a musical, with its theatrical vocals. It also happens to be the album's most addictive track imo.

Really mixed album. You have excellent tracks like The March Of The Varangian Guard, Take The Day and Stand Up And Fight, then complete garbage like Hunting Pirates and Venetoi! - Prasinoi!!
Like the soundtrack feel a lot but think they have relied on it a bit too much at the expense of the actual songs.
Not decided on a score yet, will give further time for it to sink in.
Edit. Its growing on me. 8

I'd have to disagree, aside from Hunting Pirates and Stand Up And Fight, the album ranges from completely forgettable, to complete trash. It's really a heart breaker, the first 2 albums I absolutely worshipped, but this is just bad. Take The Day is absolutely embarrassing, it sounds like they stole the tune from Rocky Horror Picture show.

Which Rocky Horror song does it sound like? It doesn't remind me of any of the melodies...
Or, do you mean it generally feels like tunes in the show?

A bit of both. I've only seen RHPS once, and I swear there was a tune in it that sounded exactly like the intro to Take The Day.

It could refer to "the Blues" and "the Greens" - two chariot racing teams competing in the Constantinople hippodrome.
