I know, very few albums deserve the rating you can see on the left, but trust me, I could only think of two or three more that would. Omnium Gatherum have showed me another dimension of metal music that is both strange and awesome. New World Shadows cannot be compared to other bands or albums. Of course I could name a few out of the melodic death and gothenburg genre, but even if I would, one could not even think of how this record sounds like. People have to listen to it, there is no other way to explain the music, since it is that complex and original. Hailing from Finland, Omnium Gatherum created their final breakthrough with New World Shadows, a nine-song album that runs for about 52 minutes.

Agreed. This is pretty much their weakest release yet.

Their weakest? Hm...Weird statement. I see that rating based on more than 400 people tells totaly oposite. (and rating would be even higher if there is no vote abusers)
And i definitely agree with that. This is their best by far! A melodic death masterpiece.
but hey, everyone has it's own opinion, i can't argue with that

What a overrated album!

It's a good album, but only that! And in originality it deserves a 1 ...

I agree. It's good but way overrated. -.-

There is no such thing as originality, either everything is original or nothing is. It's a simple thought, I don't presume too many will be able to grasp it. It has everything to do with exposure. You would have to hear every piece of music ever recorded and not recorded before casting such an assumption pertaining to originality. Anyways, for something to be completely original it would have to build upon itself and nothing else. All music is inspired, one way or the other, by music. No musical artist creates anything "new", "music" is the root word behind "musical" and becomes an adjective describing what is an artist. Music builds upon music, and musicians build upon their own music, as well. But, because of this thing called an industry, people assume there is such a thing as "new": release dates, styles, genres, etc. Simply listening to what "the masses" don't listen to, doesn't necessarily mean you are doing anything new nor listening to anything new. Even what's "new", arbitrarily speaking, becomes old.

Thy Catafalque - Rengeteg is hands down my favorite album of the year, and people arguing between Septic Flesh, Insomnium, and Omnium Gatherum are doing anything but something new. Which leads me to contemplate removing all ratings from any albums I've ever rated. What is this, grade school? You either like something or you don't.

There, ratings deleted, all of them. I'll let the rest of you decide what's "best".
And for the record, the color Green is the best color in the world.

Solid 10! This album (and band) is the best new find I did this year! "The Distance" is an absolute masterpiece. I don't care whether it's original or not. This is the sound I'm looking for, this is the sound I love.

This album has such a more mature sound, more atmospheric than previous releases. Production has also been improved.

One of the very few melodeath bands I still enjoy listening to. While the album isn't close to being a masterpiece, it's still worth spending 50 minutes to listen to.

I've heard this a number of times throughout last year but every time I put it on it still leaves me cold.
Listening to it now hasn't changed that, still can't get into it, it just sounds like it's missing something.. though I don't know what.

It's their best album since 'Spirits and August Light'. It's been over a year and I'm still listening to 'NWS' fairly regularly.

I sought something that could match Insomnium's "One For Sorrow" and I found it in this album. A masterpiece.

This is the first album I heard from them. When I started listening to this I was expecting some typical melodic death like Be'lakor.
But I was blown away! The melodies, the atmosphere...
Excellent album!

I think metal was just fine without Omnium Gatherum...

Spirits And August Light plus their demos/EPs were pretty good imo.

I can't really stomach most things after those though, seems too sterile/plasticy, mayhaps even saccharine.

A Nice Guy
I usually like Melodic Death Metal, it's one if my favourite genres, but for some reason I could never get into this album, or this band, I found it a bit long winded and lacking the melody to keep me interested.

The music style sort of reminds me of a progressive Insomnium, but not as interesting to me. Despite all that there are still good moments to each song.

It took a few spins for this album to click with me, but I enjoy it a lot now! Glad I persisted.

8.7/10 for me - Everfields, Ego, New World Shadows, and Watcher Of The Skies are the stand-out songs IMO.
