A handful of listeners will still remember a band called Death, who revolutionized Metal in the 90s to inspired countless bands and ultimately leaving their mark with the name of the musical style itself . While lots of bands were inspired by them, the Quebec-based combo known as Martyr is taking their Technical Death Metal to another level by sounding like the successors of Death with a progressive twist. With 2000's "Warp Zone", the band led by Daniel & François Mongrain already got recognition, but 2006's "Feeding the Abscess" is the album that should elevate Martyr to worldwide fame.

Curse you 'Warp Zone', for years you stood between me and this spectacular record. But no more.

As in you didn't like Warp Zone so you never bothered with another Martyr album or because you liked it so much you were never able to stop listening to it in order to check this out.

This bit.

Likewise, although when I did get around to this I wrote it off just as fast. I personally think this band is garbage.

Strange, one of the few tech death bands that actually exhibit a semblance of songwriting. Even the shouty, Slayer-esque vocals don't put me off this.

I'm pretty sure it was the vocals that turned me off for the most part, and I never even noticed the songwriting. It just had a "suck" vibe that I normally appreciate when analyzing women, but not when listening to an album.
