Lord Mantis turn us into babies. What do I mean exactly? Babies are the only form of human quite content to roll around in its own shit (or other people's, or animal's, it makes no difference to a baby). As we get older we gain instinctive defenses against anything that might contain disease. We recoil at the site of waste, we are repulsed by the smell of decay, we strive futilely to keep ourselves clean from infection, yet, the draw we feel to bands such as this is almost insatiable and when you consider the fact Lord Mantis are like an out of control, shit-filled machine, churning out lumps of foetid, rotting excrement for no real good reason then we become somewhat paradoxical in our desires. We become babies.
Naah, that shirt looks way better than Lord mantis' cover art.
On the whole it is a better design for sure. Makes me think the artist lacks variety though. I would have thought limbless religious individuals being raped by tentacles/tongues is something you'd do just the once.

I think Freud would have a field day had he seen this guy's artwork

Written by BloodTears on 23.04.2012 at 11:15 This album rips, it's very dark, almost black metallish at times, but incredibly hammering at the same time.
Are you implying that black metal is never incredibly hammering?
At the very least you have to admit it's pretty chainsawing.

Search for Justin Bartlett. I don't think he lacks so much variety.
Heh, now I know who is responsable for my kick ass Kvelertak owl-tshirt.

Both psychedelic and sludgy and blackened and catchy and groovy and... dirty. Great album for those interested in music with at least some of those characteristics.

Written by angel. on 29.10.2013 at 22:10 I still haven't checked this out, but I'm so jelly of that tshirt's owner : Edit : I'm enjoying it and now I'm more jelly of that tishirt's owner.
Thank you, it's one of my favorites.
That isn't a Lord Mantis tshirt though. It's a Dragged Into Sunlight tshirt that Joe posted because the artist was the same guy who did the artwork of Lord Mantis latest album.
This on the other hand is a Lord Mantis tshirt (which I also own).

Written by Guest on 04.03.2014 at 19:06 Does that riff at the end of The Whip and the Body make anyone else wanna run like hell for no particular reason?
I fucking love the ending... When I saw them at Roadburn I screamed like a huge fanboy the moment they started that riff because I was so fucking excited.
What a nice way to end the set.
Hah, I can actually hear myself at 13:00

Next best thing: Dragged Into Sunlight have a shirt done by the same artist that looks pretty similar...
Yeah, I know this post is over two years old, but would you happen to have a link to purchase? I need this in my life.

I'm extremely late to this party. I must be the only one I know who listened to Death Mask (which was in my top 10 of 2014) before this one. That being said, I love this but still prefer their latest effort. While Pervertor is more consistent and up-tempo, I think the vocals have become more grippingly evil and the guitars more gummed up with slime. My favorite tracks on here share the punchier, one-liners: Ritual Killer and At The Mouth both satisfy my need to put on a grim face and mouth my best imitation. "I DENY...MY LIFE!" If you listen, though, I can almost hear the progression straight into the next album. The Whip And The Body even talks about a "death face." Delicious. I love these guys for the same reason I loved Monotheist and Trypticon: it's dark, sinister, and ugly.

Not only did I listen to Death Mask first, I also like it more than this. While this is still a disgustingly brilliant album with plenty of great moments, I feel Death Mask is a definite step above (though not a big one) and a natural evolution of this sound. Favorite tracks: Levia, At the Mouth.
5 years since I last commented on this album and guess what? This album STILL rocks my socks off. It represents every aspect I desire from UGLY, DISGUSTING metal.
A modern classic of extreme sludge metal. The mechanized groove just gives it this extra oomph that is so blood pumping. Raw yet clear and heavy as fuuuuuuuuuck. And when they do go for more melody or solos it just sounds so brilliant juxtaposed with the ugliness like the amazing solo closing the album. Dangerously approaching the 10-territory.
TRAPPED INSIDE THE NEED!!!
