Rating: 5 Umm what?

"Drought" has the sour taste of the inexorable; it is a musical journey through the last moments before disaster hits. This recording displays some of the most lethal song writing ever witnessed from the band while retaining their unmistakable sound

Sounds all right.

I prefer acidly sweets, but sour will do as well.

I've always favoured a kind of irony, meaty taste myself but I'm sure this will do.

There's no such thing as premature ejaculation. Whenever I ejaculate it's right on time, whenever that time may be.

I respect that... but the album hasn't even been released. It's kind of like your mom telling you her new friend is coming over and you blow your load just thinking about her. You don't even know what this girl looks like but you've seen some of your mom's other friends and they're all MILFs.

But the important thing is I shot my load. The where, when, who and how are unimportant =3

Very true. And with DSO you're almost certain to shoot your load regardless so you might as well not even wait to see her. Like every time your mom brings a friend over she's similar to the last girl but still super hot. Maybe the only major difference is hair color or waist size but at the end of the day you know you're still gonna have some great jerk material.

Rating: 5 I've listened to that song about 5 times and to me it sounds like a Paracletus cut-off. Messy, forced and generally quite poor by DsO standards.

Yea it's the Paracletus-flow, not the one in some of the previous albums. I like this, you like that.

Well I won't be surprised if the new EP is lifeless display of technical showmanship with little substance. Either way we don't have that long to wait to find out.

well, BrainDrill started with enjoyable songs as well (example: Revelation), so it seems like the natural development of technical bands....
anyways, considered Chaining the Katechon a far too sterile song already

some songs from Paracletus

Only some songs, yet you gave it 10/10

Paracletus is what happens when bands get too comfortable at playing their instruments and forget how to write good songs. Katechon retains much of DsO's organic sound, whereas Paracletus completely threw it out the window.

It was orignally released on a compilation/split (which I bought at the time) and later rereleased as stand alone e.p. just like they did with Diabolus Absconditus

Rating: 7 The single was kinda misleading, this EP is actually quite nice. The post metal element that everyone noticed in Paracletus is more prominent but don't let that turn you off, DsO's personality is still there and the great thing about it is that it reminds me emotionally of SMR,C

I really apologize if this sounds stupid, but why didn't I get a single riff off the new EP? It's too, too impossible to get into.

Rating: 5 Seems like I'm complaining about a new release every day at the moment. This is unbelievably flat and lifeless for a DsO record; a technical bore. Another let down.
Vombatus - 21.06.2012 at 00:37
I really like it. Easier listen than Paracletus, and being only a 20 minutes EP helps too.

Fiery Serpents and The Crackled Book Of Life are great.

  7,5/10.
Far from being their best EP, but I really don't want to complain. I enjoyed it a lot anyway. It's a little step back and DsO can afford it, after all they've done - especially the monstrous Paracletus, which I consider their best work and one of the most overwhelming experiences I've ever had. Great work guys, but try not to become just the contorsionists of avant-black, okay?

Exactly. That album got some many high marks yet I still fail to see what is so special about it. Its a mediocre DSO clone.

Rating: 4 Forgettable.

Ok, I gave it 4 chances, and curiously ended being my rating.

I'm a big follower of DO. Fas... is my favorite BM album ever, but this EP is just awful, literally need more work, kind of recycled riffs.

It lacks originality in someway. Do you guys remember Kénôse?

I just hope they doesn't change they style.

About this:
"This recording displays some of the most lethal song writing ever witnessed from the band while retaining their unmistakable sound"
And what could this song be? Is not in this EP for certain.

Rating: 9 Honestly, after the first listen I got a little upset but after more times, I can definitely say that this EP is not that bad. The songs Fiery Serpents and The Crackled Book of Life are both top-notch DO and feature some really intense parts. It is true, however, that if they keep going this way, they will quickly become generic and boring, I mean, where is the Chaining The Katechon magnificient songwriting ?
Megadeth88 - 28.06.2012 at 02:58
Rating: 9 The one thing I really enjoyed the most about DO is the drumming. The drumming on this EP is intense! My pants literally came off when I put Drought into my stereo. I may not understand the big fuss about this EP, but I surely hope they keep this going. This is what I like to hear in BM. Good musicians showing off their talent!

Meh, when used in context (like this thread) it is understood anyway. Besides, it's not even an official shortname or something, is it?
