I'm guessing this will poll highly in the biggest surprise and letdown catagories in next year's awards.

To me, expectations and prejudices aside; This is fairly decent and easily digestible "poppy" BM. Watain have always written pretty catchy and straight forward BM and this is what that sounds like with a much bigger budget behind it. Of course it doesnt really break any boundaries and isnt especially outstanding, but did anyone really expect it to be? All that said i think i quite like it for what it is.

In a sane world as it should be, and it wont be for a while, we'll do away with capital and pay for things with smiles.

I didn't read any comments but just wanted to say that I'm extremely disappointed with this album.
Casus Luciferi is my all time favourite album N°1 and Lawless Darkness was one the highest quality albums in BM ever imo.
And this new album is just...soulless. There are no songs that stick out, no ideas that can grab me and make me excited and overall it just sounds boring and mediocre.
I normally know beforehand from ~10 years of experience listening to music when I have to listen an album multiple times to be able to enjoy but this one will suck no matter how often I'll listen to it.
To me it seems that the inspiration and creativity from this band has come to an end. Which is a real bummer.

This album is flat out boring with bad production and sound to boot.

It sounds good and clear, so it must be bad!

But please, let's not get into this discussion again...

While The Wild Hunt may not be my favourite Watain record so far, I like how it's quite diverse: it has very fast-paced moments and some slow minutes too, it has brutal black metal numbers and it also has a ballad (which is really reminiscent of Bathory, as it has already been mentioned above). Definitely the most enjoyable black metal album of 2014 for me so far. Err...

It's sad, it's more gothic, more doom, more melancholic, not that raw and fast. Also we heard Erik's clean vocals. Not bad...

This album deserves better. It was a daring release for the band.

I must have been asleep for this release because the only controversial thing I remember about Watain is how much they piss off vegans during their live shows. Will have to explore and see for myself what all the fuss is about.
