I usually tend to shy away from death metal in its current incarnation, finding many of today's acts as being more concerned with upholding the often stale standards of the genre than with injecting them with a fresh, modern twist. It's album's like Obliteration's Black Death Horizon that make me reexamine this perhaps hasty jump to conclusions, and give it a serious run for its money.

Amazing stuff. Solid album.

Especially closing track which ended up like a boss!

Especially closing track which ended up like a boss!

don't you mean the penultimate track 'Black Death Horizon''? Because the closing track is the instrumental outro 'Churning Magma''.

No, I meant 'Churning Magma' one. Being an instrumental finisher, the last half of that song was stellar. Though BDH is superb song but I love the way album finished it up. I do however didn't like middle section which stretched it up and lose the glow of flowing songs.

What's not original? Why its not best of death metal?

I mean don't take it negatively but I'm curious what potholes did you find?

Because it's not original. It's old school death metal. The clue is in the name: old.

It's a good album, and might have scored higher from me if there weren't a number of better death metal records released in 2013.

That's irrelevant this is a great album, one of the best from this awesome year for Death Metal.

Okay, what are the original death metal albums?

I really really want to know.

Speaking of this album, whether its old school or not, it kicks spine off. No major issue with this record(although earlier whined about "stretching it bit in middle section" because momentum in first half wasnt carried well to the middle section and finishing was amazing) but it's the finest release of 2013. Tough competition in DM this year, I agree, but can't knock off this release just because it had number of splendid DM records on '13.

Anyway, i loved it.

But in my mind it doesn't compete with Ulcerate, Abyssal, Grave Miasma, Tribulation, Bolzer, Portal, Krypts, Drowned, Lantern, Temple Nightside and so and so fourth. They were all either more original / interesting or just better executed, more to my tastes etc. so it wouldn't make sense for this to score as highly as those albums. Black Death Horizon is well written and decent sounding but lacks what other bands did so there's really no way I can rate it more than 7.5 or it wouldn't be in keeping with my other scores.

Abyssal, Bolzer, Tribulation, Portal, Antediluvian are all considerably more original sounding, and Grave Miasma, Lantern, Temple Nightside and Drowned's demo are all better sounding to me.

The last three you mentioned, I still haven't checked yet, but the rest are all indeed better. I wouldn't rate it much higher than you tbh, a solid 8 maybe but for me I wouldn't let other great albums dictate my score for another very good (but not as good) piece of music.

Woah, bunch of marvellous releases.

Okay, I haven't checked out Antediluvian, Drowned's demo(rare one?), Lantern, Bolzer(listenend in bits and pieces). Portal's new is fucking amazing and really spun some really good elements in it. Well, i havent covered up DM of '13 much but i still stick to my point of saving's Black Death Horizon little flaws and can actually give a run for the money to other (strong)contenders.

In fairness Drowned's release was only 2 songs so not necessarily comparable to other stuff, but if these two songs are anything to go by it would conquer most things released.

Putting this up to an 8 anyway, as it's arguably as good as the Lantern release which gets slightly boring by the end.

Fantastic.

I gotta chance to listen to the demo and indeed it's classic.

Well, if they released new Ep/Full length I hope they should be classified in "Clandestine" issue. Wait, demos are accepted, right? Why haven't this demo didnt make it through that Clandestine issue? Or was it already picked?
