Ok, so before I start spewing off my meaningless opinions into the blogosphere and acting like people should read them, I must admit something about the piece I am about to write. I am like Avenged Sevenfold's high school girlfriend. We had a blast on our first date (Waking The Fallen), and made love all night for a while (City Of Evil). Then he stopped buying me a lot of nice stuff, but he really still loved me (Avenged Sevenfold). At one point, I thought he cheated on me with commercial rock, but he really didn't (Nightmare). I will probably always love Avenged Sevenfold, and may be the most biased person to speak of this; however, if a band I'm dating releases crap, I'll say it's crap. With that being said, I consider their latest release, Hail To The King, make-up sex.

Question:
What would make people hate this one?
Hey! I am serious really why? This band listed as one of top 25 bands of all time. . . but 160 here?

The answer is simple. Because real metalheads are here. Who would really rate this band top 25? no seriously?

Ehh. . . I think you're right, but really, I found out this band somewhere on 25th rank!!

I have honestly been an Avenged fan for years, they were pretty much my gateway into metal and the reason I took up guitar so they will always have a place with me. That being said this album was severely lacking. I thought the last two songs of the album were great and the first two were okay but the entire middle section was just eh, that is where I really got the covers feel from. Course, when I first got it and people were saying that I refused to admit it but after going through it a couple times it is pretty clear.

After talking to some of my friends I thought I was weird and just didn't understand the music. But judging from what I see here, I don't feel weird at all. Thanks, people.

This album is great, more "Metallica" sound and more groove oriented, Just check this out "This Means War" .
Alternative hard-rock groove new wave of American heavy metal .
My final rating is "8.7" .

Don't want to be a dick... But they just played "Sad But True" and changed some notes and added their own lyrics. It's sad, but true...

I find that hilarious because I already enjoy some of the songs on here more than I enjoy that song (or most of the other songs from that godawful album).

Not only that this is one of the most horrible albums I've listened to in a while, this is also horrendous copy/paste material from other more notorious and more older bands. It is beyond me how can someone appreciate this gimmick of a band and I am just appaled at how many people worship Synyster Gates. This was made just to sell, but not to last.

Are you kidding me? Listening to the entire discography, this album is the ONLY one that sounds anything close to "metal" to me personally. I personally just enjoy the hell out of this album, and it's my first time ever hearing the band. Love the energy, just awesome.

Really? I found City of Evil to be their most metal. This one was also metal, but it felt completely uninspired and oddly lacking in energy, with the exception of a few songs. Though Acid Rain is the best song by a country mile, and it didn't require a whole lot of energy.

Saying Avenged's early stuff doesn't sound like metal is nothing short of moronic. Sounding The Seventh Trumpet and Waking The Fallen are straight-up metalcore while their later works (City Of Evil and the self-titled) evolve into a simpler heavy metal sound. Nightmare and this album are even simpler, and lower in quality, but still metal.

They may lack originality but their sound has matured overall, I hope they keep treading this path.

That is a bit of an understatement, don't you think? When they copy entire riffs and other parts from songs from other bands.

They don't really copy riffs. They copy structures (Sad But True/Metallica) and styles (Doing Time/Velvet Revolver and Coming Home/Iron Maiden) but I wouldn't say they copy entire riffs. Name me one riff they copied entirely.

But it's well documented they stole their logo from Overkill.

To me that's kind of the problem here. Just to give you an idea Iced Earth did an album called Tribute To The Gods. An album full with covers of bands that inspired the founder of the band. That's what I think is a proper tribute. Taking riffs from other bands slightly changing them and putting your own lyrics over them sounds more like plagiarism than tribute to me.

If you want to make a tribute album of your favourite band then I much rather see a full on cover album tbh instead of this.

I respect your opinion, but I like the album and I'm sure they were aware that they would be accused of that. (sorry for my English)
