Staff review by

Witherscape is yet another Swanö project and one which offers progressive death metal thematically and aesthetically caste in a gothic atmosphere. With a keyboard rich texture The Inheritance naturally receives the wealth of inspiration the name Swanö has come to guarantee, as it benefits from a structural integrity shown in the likes of Moontower and Edge Of Sanity's releases.

Rating: 9 Really excellent!

Rating: 10 I might be Dan's fanboy, but he hasn't really put out anything worth mentioning in a while. This album is excellent, there isn't a song that I don't like on this! It has influences from all of his previous project/bands (EOS, Nightingale, Moontower). I think the addition of another musician rounded the sound quite nicely.

Sounds Swänö,but isn't best release for him. Still good stuff...
Zaph - 08.08.2013 at 16:38
Rating: 7 Quality stuff, but it didn't blow me away. Happy I found the album for a very reasonable price
psykometal - 08.08.2013 at 17:04
With all the different vocal styles/techniques employed, and the concepts, the album sounds to me like if Arjen were to decide to employ some more death-y material with Ayreon. Good album.

You know, it's Swanö.

Anyways, just in a couple of songs on my first listen, and it is really promising! Never liked Moontower, but this seems to be a good version of that, plus some Nightingale, whom I love.

Rating: 8 Good album but it just makes me want to listen to Edge of Sanity and Moontower :/
phanto - 24.08.2013 at 05:41
Rating: 8 Excellent album. Definitely has a Swanö Seal of Quality.
I prefer Moontower however, and I would rate both the top EoS and Nightingale stuff above this.
Valaskjalf - 28.08.2013 at 21:36
Rating: 7 The music is good but the vocals annoy the living fuck out of me!
Unhealer - 29.08.2013 at 05:58
Rating: 7 Ah, it works. Won't be listening to it much but it's quality material definitely.

Rating: 9 Which of the guest singers was the black voice on The Wedlock Observation?
qlacs - 23.09.2013 at 18:01
Rating: 8 Great comeback from Swanö after all these years. I like it a lot, but the songwriting seems a bit rusty at times, although maybe I want to see another EoS album in it..

My first experience with the band and the main creative dude. Pretty cool, but his voice reminds me too much of Trey Parker:

Rating: 9 I hope Dan Swanö and Ragnar Widerberg won't stop and they release something from time to time. This album is just great.

Rating: 8 Dan Swanö cannot be a surprise. But I didnt know about this project until a few weeks ago, my fault...
This album i a very good summary of what Dan did in his unbelievable career, and the quality of song in definitely hi.
The only "Dead For A Day" is worth the purchase of the album.
Lokasenna - 02.11.2014 at 23:20
Rating: 9 Sounds like Dan woke up one day and said "Alright, let's pretend to be Opeth". Can't really complain about that.
Bad English - 17.09.2015 at 15:08
Great one, I like this one since I heard song from MS news. I like this I like how dan sings he should do clean vox, it works just fine, emotionally it works, IMO band should replace name prog whit something else , many cases name prog scares away, I have no intense listen DT , never works, as many prog, some works as this and FW... prog should be judged individually, rest of genres 80% can be good, in prof maybe 5% , anyway this is good one
3rdWorld - 15.09.2016 at 20:58
I kinda always thought, back from when I listened to this album that Swano is the one who is playing the guitars here considering how insanely cool and un-fucking-believable it is. But whoever that Ragnar guy is, I'd say he showed how good Swedish progressive melodic death metal can really be. /Respect.
