This is the old Fates Warning, as if the last 10 years haven't happened. And after 10 years, you probably won't like a band that has "evolved" too much. Their new album is excellent, as any album beginning with "No Exit". For me, this music will always be linked to the mood of early autumn, so the release date is perfect. In my opinion, Ray Alder is one of the best vocalists. My personal favorites are (after several times listening) "Firefly", "Falling", and "Lighthouse". If you like the old FW albums, I'm sure you will like this one too. One slightly negative point is that there are some "unnecessary" sound effects that make you dizzy (at least if you are wearing headphones). So, 9 of 10.

I'm listening to this right now, and I'm very impressed by what I've heard so far. Oh, and the unedited, full 7 minute version of "Firefly" should have been on the regular album, it's definitely better than the edited "album version"!

LMFAO, exactly my thoughts! I gave it a full listen. It's a bit different than X and Disconnected in that the songs aren't as complex and elaborate save for "And Yet It Moves". Jim Matheos gave us a bit of the old FW. The songs rely on heavy, chugging, precise riffing and aren't the longest songs he has ever wrote. And what's that? A guitar solo? Feels like No Exit all over again. Ray Alder's voice still going strong too. I was a bit worried about that. Bobby's drumming is amazing, it's as good as his performance on Sympathetic Resonance.
I will listen a few more times before I rate. Part of me misses the longer, more intricate songs of FW but I also like the return to the older FW.

This is the best I've heard Ray sound in a while. He's good on Redemption and definitely doesn't hold them back, but he just seems a lot stronger on this one.
Pretty good album, nothing that changes the way I view the band but there's some gold on this album.

Dream Theater's latest wasn't bad at all, but I enjoyed this one even better. Can't wait to catch them on the road!

Not enjoying this, but I haven't enjoyed any of Fates Warning so that's to be expected. I won't be rating this.
I found myself going back to Dream Theater, as well as Turn of Events (I actually adore it). I love their new one too, but I see why some people don't. I'll have to give Fates Warning more listens to really make sure there isn't anything there for me. I know they are popular and the musicianship sounds superb. I'll keep on trying.

yes, it's better than the last Dream Theater album; I would not call that Dream Shitter though, not funny at all (if you meant it to be funny, I dunno, otherwise is just brutally rude if I may say so, if you disliked the album it's OK, but don't call it that, it's just wrong).

You get at least 2 songs like that, "One Thousand Fires" plus "And Yet It Moves". I've been addicted to this album since day one. I'd give it an 8, but the last track is enough to increase the rating to 9. It's by far the best Fates Warning song, and the best song I've heard this year.

"And Yet It Moves" is indeed brilliant. The acoustic bits are quite surprising but fit perfectly.
