Old school sucks. New school is the way to go.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's talk about why this album is a decent tribute to the old-school of hip-hop death metal.

Death metallers Bloodbath make no secret their love for the bands that laid the groundwork for every metalhead's mandatory favorite genre of death metal, specifically that of the Swedish variety. Resurrection Through Carnage brought to mind the classic Entombed-style distorted guitars. Nightmares Made Flesh was much more clean and polished, but remained brutal, catchy, and heavy with the Swedish influences meeting a more? Florida style? I don't know. Let's just call it Swedish.

Huh, I just realized that the title track has lyrics that aren't in the booklet. The lyrics on this site are straight from what came with the CD, so I'm wondering what the rest of that shit is all about. Makes me curious.

I was quite disappointed with what I've heard prior to the album release but this album is surprisingly not as bad as I think.
Hell, it might even grow on me.
Nothing close to what they made with Mikael and Peter but it's pretty good death metal.

Holmes provides the vox that they've always needed. This actually sounds like someone recreating classic DM, which is something that I don't think Peter or Mikael ever pulled off.

I can barely recognize this guy's voice with the great vocals on Paradise Lost's debut.

Slow, doomy, pounding death metal songs, like Church of Vastitas, are great. That is, if they are done right. Unfortunately, Church of Vastitas sucks ass, and is by far the most boring song on the album. I like the album, but goddamn, that song is such a filler piece of crap. The album would have been better as a whole without that song in it.

Is it an 8 or a 9? Can't decide. Need some more listens to make up my mind. Though I've been listening to this non-stop all this time.

Really? I thought it was boring when I saw the promo video before release, but it works well on the album. Having a doom/death song when Holmes is your new singer kinda works.

I didn't say that doom/death was bad; in fact, I think it would've been awesome in this album. I just think that this particular song is boring and doesn't do much, even for a slow doom track. It provides a change in pace where the album needs it, sure, but I wish that change in pace was provided by a similar track that did it's job better.

I don't know. I can see how you like the song, but it just doesn't do much of anything for me, personally.

He did give Lulu a 9 so it's not his most absurd opinion :p

Double Lol (though I've never heard Lulu).

Guess what, I dig Lulu. I also like Swans and I get the same feeling when listening to both. It's hard to get into but with the right mindset there definitely can be extracted something appealing. Although not to regular metal fans, and certainly not to the typical thrash fan. So I like Lulu, but simply cannot stand these vocals of Holmes. It's a shame 'cause there is some amazing guitar play going on in most songs.

Same good old Bloodbath. But Nick Holmes' vocal manner is less guttaral compared to the previous vocalists. While I find that it works well for slow tracks, such as Church Of Vastitas, on the other hand, it makes more aggressive and brutal tracks sound less brutal.

Well fuck! This album sounds good and Nick Holmes vocals actually work.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Not entirely blown away by anything here, but I'll be damned if it didn't turn out significantly better than I anticipated.

OMFG i remember trying to pick up 3 or 4 fav songs from the previous albums and coulnd't cause i had to mention more... this time i really try to find outstanding songs and almost can't... it's not bad, it's pleasing death metal, but it has nothing to do with their awesome previous work... Holmes is not bad, but due to his doomy slower growls the whole band had to change their production so that he would fit... and the result is not good compared to their previous stuff...

Worst Bloodbath album ever by far...

I think it's a great album with great instrumentals. I'm gonna have to agree with most of the people here and say that the vocals ruined it for me though lmao. Nick just sounds like he has no power in his voice and that his vocals are out of place on an album like this. Then again most of what I listen to from this band is peter sounding like a fuckin sea monster.

Really different from the previous ones, however it's sound really good, doomy riffs are awesome, so slow and heavy. I really like this one, maybe my favourite.

"unite in pain" and "famine of god's word" are great. other than these two songs, sadly enough; this is an average death metal album so far. I bet it is also their weakest.
