By far their best. That nice keys at the end of "Veil Of Transcendence" and the epic choirs on "A Casual Landscape" really make a great advantage. I'm stunned.

Until now it's sounding amazing. The album sounds less intense and more complex than its predecessor. I would probably end up loving this.

I think it's just complex in a different way. There's a lot of parallels I would draw to Leviathan's latest album. I am stoked about my review for this one. It will be up later this week.

I might end up loving this more than the previous and the previous was amazing. Some of the riffs in this album almost make me wanna get up and dance, especially the one on the final track.

Holy shit. I think I might like this even better than Novit. Wow. This is so very, very good. Gargantuan, terrifyingly melodic, and the production is perfect. It's not too muddy, and it has a lovely smooth sound (at least in my headphones). I'm blown away so far.

I didn't see your quote until now lol.

I don't hear any kind of similarities with the new Leviathan, at least when I heard this album, but since you mention it I should check it again.

They are far from the same, but there are plenty of ideas that reminded me of Scar Sighted.

Mentioning Leviathan in an Abyssal thread is distracting. No ideas from Scar Sighted on this one, and the sounds are totally dissimilar.

Also, I understand the appeal of this record, but I'm very surprised most people are rating this higher than Novit... It is more melodious and there are some extra features like choirs and keys, but I thought the sheer density of the predecessor would make it more favoured. Hopefully the rationale behind the higher ratings will make more sense as the thread progresses.

Yup mz. This type of stuff barely squeezes in at the end of the spectrum for me. Plebeian Grandstand, Alkerdeel, along with Abyssal have just a pinch of "post" to hold my interest.

Can't stand the vocals. I utterly hate when growls are way too low-pitched like that. It bores me to death.
Probably why I hate every band that sounds remotely like Portal.

Probably why I hate every band that sounds remotely like Portal.

Normally I dislike it as well, but here the vocals just add to the already quite dense soundscapes featured on the album, so I really don't mind the low pitch.

Listened to this in the last two days nonstop during car-rides, this is one hell of an album.

I know where you're coming from. In this case, I find vocals boring but not annoying. I think they are too low in the mix to be annoying. I've heard much worse than that, for sure. Still, not my style at all.

Needless to say that these three are barely similar at all, rxcept for the fact that all of them are tucked up intense extreme shitz

My second listen of this is faring considerably better than my first (probably wasn't ideal running music tbch). I brushed it off as a dissonant onslaught but it's not really. Quite a decent amount of OSDM and even Triptykon-esque moments in it. Still think the overlayed baby mobile music on 'Veil Of Transcendence' sounds silly and annoying though. The epic, melancholic melody on the final track should ensure a place on Dima's intro / outro list [edit] I see it already has!

I'd say that it fits perfectly for the last two minutes of the song. Otherwise it feels kind of forced although I got used to it and do not really mind it anymore.

The translation of the album's name in modern greek (why they used modern and not ancient) is "replacements". I can't get their point.

Blackened death is another hit and miss genre for me, but this album I really like. It's a quality blend of heavy dissonance and striking melodies, and there's some truly remarkable moments on this record, like some of the staggering build-ups. The main build-up riff on the last track is phenomenal.
