Myrkur hasn't stopped making waves in the metal scene since unveiling her self-titled EP in 2014, and Mareridt, the project's second full-length, suggests that those waves are only going to get bigger and bigger with the passage of time.

Fantastic album, really. Her clean vocals are pure magic. My only problem is that sometimes the drums seem to be pushed way too much in the background (ex. Elleskudt). Other than that, for me there are no words to describe this wonderful piece of folk and black metal mixture. You have to listen to this.

I definitely agree with you, buddy. I like those folk elements in the new album...

It's surely a beautiful, intriguing and at times creepy album, I guess she'll get a lot of grief about labelling this album as "black metal".

I also do not get it. I would label it maybe as blackened folk rock / metal. Most songs are more rock than metal. In Crown, she even sounds like Lana del Rey. I love the album, now matter what it is.

Exactly that, atmospheric blackened folk metal. It struck me as a mix between Enya, Kate Bush and the atmosphere of Stephen King's Carrie. I find Crown awesome btw.

Somehow this album sounds like BM mixing whit gospel music, hmm Varg said BM is like blues what never changes, well I like when metal bands makes neo folk projects but this is more gospel, church music in the Simpson's. Well album could be better promoted, revieved in MS, for such band, even I don't see anything special into this , if you dig deep you can dig up better BM band, but this is not band what must be buried either.

What I got from the youtube comments section is if you dislike this artist you're close minded traditionalist who hates evolution.

And if you like it you're a hippie who doesn't know what Metal is. I guess female-fronted Metal always raises very strong and opposite feelings.

Myrkur would be much better off discarding the black metal component. It sounds forced when it blends with the atmosphere and the shrieked vocals sound comical here. The clean, atmospheric, slow parts are just breath taking though.

For me the blend often works but it does sound a bit gimmicky at times.

Her debut wasn't much of a big deal for me, but this one's good. I really like the blend of the atmospheric and extreme parts. "The serpent" is my favorite track, and "Funeral", with it's doom vibes, it's also a highlight.

I really couldnt get into her previous album, M, but here everything seems to have gone in the right direction. It is so rare for me to find an album where I like and listen to every single track (off the top of my head only Rotting Christ's Theogonia has that honour) yet here I find myself devoured by the atmosphere Myrkur brings, something I feel is absolutely paramount in black metal especially.

Overproduced as to be expected from Relapse. Good album otherwise, a little gimmicky as others have said. Not digging it as much as everyone else.

Shapeshifter

Definitely one of my favourites of 2017. The mixture of folk/black metal with medieval music is excellently done. The sound quality is somewhat too dynamically compressed/limited for me, but at least it's not overly bright.
Not sure what some of the early rant about her being a woman is all about. This page is to comment on what we think of the album, not whether we approve or disapprove of the colour of her hair, or whether an artist is too tall or too short. Come on guys, display a little more intelligence.
