In one of the most unconventional moves of the year so far, Slovenian post-metal outfit The Canyon Observer took a detour by blending with a free jazz ensemble to create some of the weirdest metal out there.

I've always meant to check out this band, or at least the release from them that is the profile picture of a certain staff member, but if this is representative of their previous work, perhaps I've done well to avoid it; that saxophone is a challenge for enjoying this album that I'm not sure that I can overcome. I do somewhat appreciate the chaotic jazz approach here, and I imagine some of those with more eclectic tastes here will find this more to their liking

So that's where it comes from!

Sadly I'm genuinely struggling to get into this I find it such a demanding listen, perhaps it's too avant-garde for my liking, and please less on that blimming saxophone, at times I actually find it spoils the atmospherics

I enjoyed this more than expected, though maybe "enjoyed" isn't the right word. There's a real frenetic energy here that makes me appreciate how chaotic and anxious it is, especially contrasted against the beginning few minutes and last song.

I think it has a lot of potential, although the last two tracks went off the rails a bit and I lost my immersion in the music.

It is genuinely a bit nuts. Can't quite decide if I like the whole thing, but definitely dug at least the first couple of tracks.

This shows as released December 9th 2022 on Spotify, must be in error? See some conflicting info online.

Listening right now. Really liking what I'm hearing.

Interesting, I just had a google now and two hits came up as it being a 2022 release: Spotify and Apple Music. It would be a bit odd for the streaming platforms to all have an incorrect release, but nowhere else seems to indicate a premature release before last year. Release dates can get a bit fucky with advance streams, limited edition physical releases at shows, re-releases, etc - would be much easier if everyone could just decide on one fucking day and agree to it!

Conflicting info?
Let's figura out who's right!

I suppose the band themselves should know when their own album was released...
You can, of course, place more trust in the honorable businessmen Daniel Ek and Tim Cook if you really want to.

I always think it's funny when you can stream an entire album a month before it's "released"

Either way, mystery solved.
