Biography

In their formative years playing the club circuit in Liverpool Marseille used the name AC/DC until Angus and crew exploded on the UK rock scene in 1976. In awe of the aussies from down under, the band promptly renamed themselves Marseille in mid-1976. We still remain in awe of the aussie rockers to this day!!

Marseille won the first ever UK "Battle of the Bands"

In the first ever UK national "Battle of the Bands" competition in 1977 Marseille appeared with fellow NWOBHM rockers Saxon (then called "Son of a Bitch") in the northwest regional heats at the Apollo Theatre in Manchester. Marseille won the regionals, then went on to win the finals (judged by Brian May and Roger Taylor from Queen and the late, great, Mick Ronson of Bowie's "Spiders From Mars") at Wembley in support of Wishbone Ash.

Marseille were the first NWOBHM band to secure a major recording contract!

Mountain records (distributed by RCA) signed the band to a 5-year, 5-album deal in late 1977.

Marseille on the road in the U.K. - Late 70's - Early 80's

Marseille toured the UK extensively from 1978-1980 alongside UFO, Judas Priest, Ian Gillan, Nazareth and Whitesnake.

Marseille were the first NWOBHM band to play a major festival in Europe!

Marseille performed at the Bilzen Festival in Belgium supporting Cheap Trick in 1978.

Marseille were the first NWOBHM band to tour the USA!

The first gig of a two month tour supporting Nazareth and Blackfoot was in Charleston, South Carolina on 9th. May 1980. The band stormed major stadiums all along the US east coast and Canada. Meanwhile, fellow rockers Def Leppard started their blitz of the west coast in support of Pat Travers a week or two later

Marseille's members include an international TV personality!

Neil Buchanan is the Presenter and Producer of the Bafta Award winning, kick-ass, TV show "ART ATTACK!" The show now includes 500 episodes and airs in more than 30 countries around the world.

Marseille - the Hits

The band had a brief chart success in the early 80's when their melodic rock single Over and Over charted at No.31. Marseille frequently topped the heavy metal charts with various tracks from their albums. Their anthemic single Do It The French Way was also used as a soundtrack to a French soft porn movie!

Marseille Rise and Fall

Marseille's hell raising blitz on the USA came to an untimely halt when their record and management company (Mountain) imploded. One minute Marseille were storming their way to US stardom and the next minute, they were in the dark depths of a two year long legal battle in which they lost everything - including all their instruments and equipment?.and the momentum they had built.

?.and rebirth!

After 25 years and 5 divorces?.the gang are BACK with a new album called Unfinished Business officialy released in September 2010 with a full UK tour in the Autumn
