Biography

V.A.R. started to play in Liberec, Czech Republic in 1989 in the line-up that has been the same since. The origin of the name of the band is connected with the Vratislavice brewery, that used to produce good beer back then.

In the beginning, the band recorded two demos as well as two songs for famous "Ultrametal" compilation LP . Under the same label, i.e. Monitor, the debut album "Personal Destruction" is released in 1992. Even a video clip for one of the songs appears on TV.

The waning glory of thrash metal means cessation of the contract with MOnitor, not so much changes in the band direction. The band signs to an ug effort Taga Records and in 1995 the second album "Dependence" is released. Despite singing Czech, neither the record nor the video get much response from media.
Anyway. The band goes on on their metal way paved with occasional participation on various underground compilations and in 1998 the third opus "Under Water" comes out, dealing with the bad relationships in society.

The label 1.K also takes care of the fourth record "Split but Capable" which proves that the band has something serious to say. The public demand for the band's origins is also manifested by a re-release of the demo recordings on CD.

The music of V.A.R. is written mainly by ?nek carefully checked by the rest of the band. Lyrics are written by the singer Berun and address common but noticeworthy issues occuring in society.
