2008
The Norwegian symphonic metal band Adyta was founded in 2008, by Joakim Severinsen who had left Mortiferia to pursue his own goals. Adyta is a combination of metal, orchestrated music and folk music. The name Adyta is a latin word which refers to something that is not to be entered. In some cases the innermost sanctuary or shrine in an ancient temple, whence oracles were given. The name derives from one of Epica's prologues. In the year 2008, Joakim had been rehearsing with various musicians, but had not found the right ones and Adyta therefore started out as a one man band. He got in contact with Melissa Ferlaak, the former Visions of Atlantis soprano and current Echoterra frontwoman, which to his surprise agreed to sing on Rose of Melancholy which became Adyta's debute EP.
2009
The Rose of Melancholy EP was independently released in May 2009 and gained some quite good reviews and critics. The songwriting process started once again and a lot of interesting tunes will be found in the new songs. Joakim started working on Rose of Melancholy's follower which will be named Katarsis. As he already got the opertunity to work with a singer who's voice he really admire,Katarsis is to be released in 2010. Martin Aasen, a good friend and previous bandmate of Joakim, became the bands new basist.
2010
After a long period of silence, winter had brought the writing process closer to an end once again. In May the band attended the K1 studio in Larvik, Norway to record drums. The drums were tightly beaten down by Joachim Strøm Ekelund of the melodic prog metal band Aspera. Joakim started asking more of his favorite musicians and songwriters for guest appearances for his songs and got a lot of positive feedback. The upcoming Katarsis EP will feature guests such as Oliver Palotai and Mark Jansen, amongst others. In what direction Adyta will go musically remains to see. The release date of Katarsis has not been announced, but the band expect it to be available in the end of 2010.
