yes true true, I saw it this morning But still not "official", right ?

Glad to see some bands I thought they would never bring to such a festival. Good number goodies aside the big names that get all the attention too !
!J.O.O.E.! - 04.12.2013 at 12:23
Hmm, The Ruins of Beverast playing. Might have to do this fest this year.
Nefarious - 05.12.2013 at 10:25
Ditching my plans to go to Bloodstock & just bought me & my wife tickets for Hellfest instead. This is just too good to pass up.
wrathchild - 08.12.2013 at 01:03
I should be going as well, sick lineup, hope the rest will be worth the price of the ticket
Abattoir - 31.12.2013 at 14:47
Confirmed, I'm there. Ticket purchased.

Arranged myself a very cheap and uncomplicated transport, which also helped to this decision.
wrathchild - 02.01.2014 at 10:47
Ticket purchased here too
!J.O.O.E.! - 08.01.2014 at 22:49
Plane and festival tickets bought.
Vombatus - 03.02.2014 at 19:09
3 day pass sold out ! Only a few day tickets for friday and sunday left... I think there will be too much people for it to be comfortable, was to be expected with dat lineup though...
Heka69 - 03.02.2014 at 20:00
Bought the tickets yesterday; today they are gone. Such luck.
The lineup is sick, good god. And the best thing is, that already I can rest assured that my favorites do not perform simultaneously, since they are pretty much on the same stage each day. 2 days of Altar and Main Stage 2 for the finale, and the ultimate topping: Emperor. Never had I believed I'd see them live.
MyriaDreams - 24.02.2014 at 19:54
Late to the party! I cant wait for Hellfest! It seems so far away!

Cheers from India everyone.

Royal Thunder, Opeth, Dordeduh, The Ruins of Beverast, Solstafir, Ulcerate?!?!? ;_; I'm going to cry because I can't make it...

Please do. We'll communicate telepathically and i'll be able to hear a glimpse of those bands live through your tear.

I'm not too bothered about Opeth since they always visit Australia, but the rest.... someone handcuff me... -.-
Vombatus - 21.04.2014 at 17:21
Looks like the running order leaked.

As expected, a few clashes happen (it's HF after all, so no drama) except they decided to put Emperor and Vreid/Windir and the same time ! Coming from far away for this, and those two are the bands I'm definitely most looking forward to, and they play at the same f-u-c-k-i-n-g time !!! Quite incomprehensible since they appeal to the same crowd and are the only ones doing something "special". What a letdown.
Abattoir - 02.05.2014 at 22:12
Because of certain matters I won't be able to go, unfortunately.

If anyone would like to go to this fest and has no ticket, contact me through the PM or mail and we can arrange something.
Dark Cornatus - 10.05.2014 at 11:14
The clashes are a little annoying. The problem with this lineup is there are a lot of big names, and a lot of no-names. So there isn't much to see at the start and then clashes at the end. I think i lose out on half the bands i wanted to originally see.... oh well.
Heka69 - 11.05.2014 at 18:10
Actually, seeing all the fuzz it has created, I'm confident that they'll change Emperor and Vreid to play not simultaneously. At least, I want believe so, 'cause that's just rude.
No other hassle for me, just some minor decisions of ranking bands based on how much I'm willing to see them, meaning missing a few good ones.
Septicflesh > Slayer (Hanneman is dead, Lombardo is away and they are like 60 years old. No brainer)
Kataklysm > Iron Maiden (I don't see me getting another change to see them anytime soon, and I can still manage it to the second half)
Avenged Sevenfold > Carcass (I don't really give a rat's ass of Sevenfold, but my friend is a huge fan, so I guess I'll go with him. Otherwise, I'd definately see Carcass, but it ain't too much of a loss)

I'm interested in hearing from fellow Stormers going, so here is my take on the schedule; green circle means I''m going no matter what, non-discolored means I'm intreseted and I'm probably seeing it and red area means I'm not exactly sure what to do (multiple good bands overlapping). If you have any professional pointers which bands to see regarding the red areas or parts of the schedule, mainly mornings, in which I have nothing marked as important, please share your hints.

Megadeth cancelled, and are replaced by... Tadam... Dark Angel!!!!!!!
Awe-fucking-some
wrathchild - 07.06.2014 at 11:59
The organizer, Ben Barbaud, explained why cancellations and clashes happen and how disgusting it can be in this interview (in French): http://www.radiometal.com/article/interview-hellfest-ben-barbaud-va-evoquer-lascension-de-son-bebe,150413

He says HF should soon release a statement on these matters.

EDIT: and here it is: http://www.hellfest.fr/948-mise-au-point

For those interested (taken from HF official website)...

Quote:
As you know, this 2014 edition of the festival was sold out for months before the doors opening. Unfortunately, we have noticed that some people take advantage of this situation and apply excessive prices on online tickets resale. Next to this, the risks of counterfeit are there and the setting up of a black market in front of the festival threatens us all! Always give priority for the purchase of your ticket to secured resale platforms, such as www.zepass.com , in order to avoid fraudulent offers. To overcome this, the Hellfest Team has decided to exceptionally place passes on sale again (3D/Fri/Sat/Sun) at www.hellfest.fr on Monday at 2 PM (C.E.T) ! We hope that this intervention, even on the eve of the festival, shall protect ourselves from dishonest maneuvers!
Vombatus - 14.06.2014 at 01:23
^saw that earlier, and I say big bullshit. Lame excuse to sell more tickets, when it's already gonna be full packed on the festsite/camping
If they wanted to stop fraud they would have done this months ago, not now that a load of people got ripped off buying more expensive tickets. I mean, 5 days before the fest starts ? Reaaaally ?

Well, still excited for this, heading for France on Monday and hagging around till Thursday which will be onwards to Clissooooon !!!

add to this the great quality of most of the shows. Bands were really on a high roll these three days.

Just got back and must say I had a fuckin' great time !!!

However, it's getting a bit too big for my taste and not happy with how a few things are managed so I think I'm done with HF... Still had the chance to witness some massive shows yet again, so I'm happy for that

that's indeed the biggest criticism I've heard during all week-end and from many different people. And I agree too.
!J.O.O.E.! - 25.06.2014 at 11:41
Having to queue, sometimes for ages, to get into the arena area was fucking stupid. They could have at least put a canopy or something over it to stop people burning to death in the sun from standing there with no shade. I also don't get the point of the beer token thing which just means twice as much queueing and I wasn't too happy with all the band time changes. That being said it was a great fest, and The Ruins of Beverast were the only musical disappointment.

never got the token thing either - and half-ones were worse than usual.
As for Ruins, can't say. I slept while they played (a bit exhausted from an empty-stomach, dust-fest violent mosh-pit during Lofofora)

Aye there seemed to be quite a few exhausted people. I managed to keep going until Opeth right at the very end, though I did sleep through the first two tracks.

The Ruins of Beverast were the only musical disappointment.

Really ? I thought they were quite good thanks to the decent sound. Maybe it's coz I had low expectations for them after the last time I saw them (where they were amazing, so didn't think they would do anything better).

For me, Gehennna was disappointing. What a shit sound and boring as hell show. Other than that, all I wanted to see performed from decent to mind-blowing (especially Emperor/Vreid/Tsjuder), but I missed a few bands I wanted to see coz I was too tired/drunk or lazy to get up in the morning
Also was very sad for Urfaust cancelling and pissed off coz of the Godflesh time changing and the fact it was not announced at the info point so I missed them.... fuck that !

Also was very sad for Urfaust cancelling and pissed off coz of the Godflesh time changing and the fact it was not announced at the info point so I missed them.... fuck that !

I tried standing in 3 different places and nowhere could I find a point where I could hear anything other than bass and drums. A couple of others had the same issue. I quite literally had no idea what song was being played at any point other than being able to pick out a few sample bits.

I watched about half a song of Gehenna and it was pretty boring.

I missed Vried, mostly because I was under the impression it would be Vreid only stuff which I'm not interested in, but on the way back from seeing some of Clisson I heard some Windir so I wouldn't minded seeing that. I heard Emperor while walking around but I spent most of it at Solstafir, who were pretty excellent. Was also annoyed about Urfaust; I think they would have sounded pretty immense so I hope to get to see them at some point.

I was lucky that someone told me about Godflesh's time change, and I managed to catch about 4 songs. It was pretty fucking fantastic and the tent was totally empty. Really glad I saw it.

SubRosa, Electric Wizard and Opeth, along with Godflesh were the bands of the weekend for me, but Obliteration, Soilwork (yeah, I still like Soilwork), Ulcerate, Blockheads, Benighted and Dordeduh were also pretty damned good too. A few other weren't bad and others I couldn't actually see on the mainstage like Soundgarden, Alterbridge and Deep Purple sounded nice to. Sabbath didn't sound great though. Ozzy isn't really cut out for it anymore and just ended sounding a bit senile at points.

I didn't miss too much. I had to miss Gorguts as I made the mistake of taking out my contact lenses and they wouldn't stop streaming so had a to leave, and apparently Nile were incredibly good, so I would have liked to have seen them be good for a change.

Indeed Marcel I did see the Heretic show, and enjoyed it quite a bit, but nothing compared to some intoxicating lo-fi black magick !!!

Godflesh time changing

saw that on the TV in Hellfest village, while coming back after 3 Kvelertak songs. Was dead tired but I turned around and headed right to the Valley.
And that Godflesh show was downright scary. Fucking impressive and totally erased the disappointment the 2010 (or 2011?) show was

Does anyone know what happened at the Soilwork show? It went really quiet and then everyone cheered, and I thought I caught a glimpse of someone in a bath robe or something on stage. Bjorn said something like "Well that's never happened at a metal gig before" and they took about 10 minutes with sound crew doing something before they started back up again.

Man, that makes me even sadder... everyone that saw them says they were so good.

As for TRoB, I was standing at the sound table and could hear everything clearly (maybe not the first song, that was a mess ), except for the lead guitar that was a bit low, but that was constant during the whole fest for 90% of the bands....

wasn't there all the time, so I'm not sure, but it might be the moment when Bjorn passed right THROUGH the stage - or so I was told anyway...

Oh right, nice! I should have been paying more attention

My first time at this and I thought it was amazing. Eluveite was the best gig for me (even though I'd never really listened to them before) because of how crazy the crowd were. Behemoth, Emperor and Phil Anselmo put on superb performances. Ecstatic I finally got to see Maiden, and Bl. Sabbath were just as jaw-dropping as when I saw them back in November.

I'm still couching up some rocks from Benighted. Jesus, what a sandstorm the endless pitting caused.
