Joel Hoekstra has announced the release of his new melodic hard rock studio album Dying To Live from his electrifying new side project, Joel Hoekstra's 13. Hoekstra is best known as the current guitarist for Whitesnake/David Coverdale, and also known for his work with Night Ranger, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and the popular Broadway musical show Rock of Ages. Dying To Live features an all-star cast of rockers including Jeff Scott Soto (vocals), Russell Allen (vocals), Tony Franklin (bass), Vinny Appice (drums), and Derek Sherinian (keyboards), and will be available via Frontiers Music SRL on October 16th.

Kauan - Debut Music Video
Russian/Ukrainian folk/doom outfit Kauan have premiered a music video/lyric video for their upcoming 7th album, Sorni Nai. The album is a single, 52-minute-long track, ruminating on the infamous Djatlov Pass Incident - a case where 9 hikers mysteriously perished in the frost-laden Ural Mountains, and the case was shut by Soviet investigators before any explanation could be offered, leading some to believe extraterrestrial forces were at work. The video showcases the first 7 minutes of the album.

Mayhem Festival - Co-Founder Pens Open Letter Regarding Tour Controversy
There has been much discussion around Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival this year and not the good kind. The festival's co-founder Kevin Lyman said in an interview that "metal got gray, bald and fat" and that pissed a lot of people. Then Slayer's Kerry King got involved, criticized the organization of the event and blamed the festival's low attendances on the fact that the 2015 Mayhem lineup sucks, angering some of the smaller bands. Now co-founder of the festival, John Reese, has penned an "open letter" to the heavy metal community, asking everyone to support the genre and not continue to make divisive comments regarding the event. A bit of damage control it seems but things already got out of hand.
