Darkthrone - Working On New Material Again

Darkthrone's Ted "Nocturno Culto" Skjellum has issued the following update:

"Winter is most definitly full-on here now, and I'm enjoying the feeling of isolation as best as I can. Great! That out of the way, I will first thank Fenriz for doing a great job on the Darkthrone Official MySpace, du brenner for saken, bokstavelig talt! And to all of you who send me words through this site. Winter means a bit more activety indoors for me, so I'll give it my best shot to maintain this cyber-cage.

"Dark Thrones And Black Flags" is, well, history for me now, since the planning and songwriting for a new album is well under way. We enjoyed recording it and looking forward to the 13th of December when we pull the trigger for a new album. There are small details this time around that will most likely result in a slight different sound and "feeling". Seems pointless to mention such stuff here, but I can assure you that both Fenriz and me looking forward to this. The first session of a new record is always exciting+ since it do set some fundamental standards... at least in our heads... well, at least in MY head then. Working the way we do now is such a blizz it's hard to describe."

Darkthrone - Box Set Details

Peaceville Records Press Release:

"For the past 21 years Darkthrone have been leaders of the black metal scene. To coincide with this anniversary, Peaceville Records are releasing the 3CD set, "Frostland Tapes" Small Cover] on June 9th 2008. This is a fascinating trip into the earliest years of the band and the first official release ever to contain all 4 of Darkthrone's demos in one place.

"Frostland Tapes" also includes a rare live recording from Denmark in 1990 (one of only a handful of live appearances that Darkthrone has ever made) and, perhaps most significantly, the previously unreleased version of the infamous 1991 Goatlord rehearsal session.

These songs were intended to feature on the proposed second album, before the band changed direction and the tapes were confined to the vaults. Vocals were subsequently added in the mid-nineties, but they are presented here as the recording sounded in 1991 - instrumental genius, showing the complexity and intricacy of a band with a great future ahead of them.

The set comes in a rigid digibook featuring an interview with the band, chronicling their early days, ambitions and inspirations."

Darkthrone - Update From The Band

Frontman Nocturno Culto of Norwegian Black metallers Darkthrone has issued the following update:

"Darkthrone has completed four new songs for the new album, and will record a couple of new ones in a couple of weeks. Ah, and I have to tell you about the new box set from Darkthrone, "Frostland Tapes". It really came along better than I hoped, it's nice actually. Three discs, containing all demos, including "Land Of Frost" of course. Rare original rehearsal tape, "Goatlord", plus live from Denmark, drum solo by Fenriz (!) and so on. We can now, simultaneously grabbing our balls, say that after this box, we have no more 'rare' stuff to offer. "Frostland Tapes" is all of our early history. It's the right timing for it as well actually, since some clever fella has started Gylve Records to release a demo, to put it mildly, the man himself is not very pleased of this shit."

Darkthrone - New Album Title Revealed

Darkthrone's Nocturno Culto has posted the following message on his official myspace page regarding the band's new album:

"After some months with making riffs, recording, working, planning and generally having a blast, I suddenly remembered there's something called MySpace. Yeah, we have recorded four songs for the next album 'Dark Thrones And Black Flags', we sort of tried to keep the title 'hidden', but my mouth ran over talking to Metal Hammer (damn!!!), so anyway, that's the title, and NO, it's not punkish you bastards, it's METAL TO THE BONE!!! I tell ya, what we allow ourselves to do these days....riff wise I mean. IT'S A BLOODY FEAST!!!! The plan is to have the final recordings ready in July at latest. I know I know, this album comes fast, but not to worry, we'll use just a tad more time on the album after that."

Darkthrone - Refuse Award Nomination

Legendary Norwegian black metal band DARKTHRONE, nominated last Wednesday in the "Metal" category for the highly coveted Norwegian Alarm Awards, have now been removed from the list of nominees.

DARKTHRONE, one of five candidates in the metal category for their album "Sardonic Wrath", communicated their dissatisfaction at being nominated in an article published in Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten the day after the selected names were released to the public. "We play real and honest black metal," drummer Fenriz commented in the article. "And we have no interest in being part of the glitter and showbiz side of the music industry."

Alarm Awards chief, Svein Bjørge, was surprised by the band's reaction but hasted to find a solution that culminated in the band's elimination from the category altogether.

On hearing the news that their wish had been granted, Fenriz commented, "I just wanted to say my piece about the whole Alarm nomination thing last week and whether they kept us in or not would have been no skin off my nose."

"I have everything AGAINST awards for black metal," Nocturno Culto added. "What a fucking circus this has become."

"I am not against awards in general," Fenriz concluded. "I just thought it was not for us."

"Sardonic Wrath" is out now on Moonfog with promotion and distribution through The End Records in North America.

Darkthrone launch their own Label....

YORKSHIRE, JULY 26TH 2004

PEACEVILLE RECORDS is extremely proud to announce a new collaboration with the DARKTHRONE members.

DARKTHRONE LAUNCH OWN LABEL - TYRANT SYNDICATE PRODUCTIONS

Following a road trip of English and Scottish medieval castles last year with the Peaceville crew, the two members of Darkthrone - Nocturno Culto and Fenriz - expressed an ambition to expand Darkthrone operations outside of the usual 'album a year' format. With a keen musical ear and excellent positioning within the scene it seemed obvious that one way forward would be to launch their own designer label. Given that they don't have the time to run it on a day-to-day basis, the union with Peaceville was an obvious choice.

So, here we are, the label is set up and a signing has been made - Norway's AURA NOIR !!

Their label debut "THE MERCILESS" (CDTYRANT1) is a speedy head rush of old school thrash metal. The riffing will get under your skin and stay there.

Nocturno Culto of DARKTHRONE has this to say about the label:

"Tyrant Syndicate Productions is a result of a collaboration with Peaceville on the one hand and Fenriz and myself on the other. The general running of the label has fallen on me, mostly as I'm much more involved in technology than Fenriz, and besides, I want to do it. When the Peaceville people were interested in setting up a label for us, our mind began to circle around what to do with what can be called our extended music-related freedom, and we soon had a plan.

We are aiming for exclusive releases only. We want high-credibility underground bands, both known and unknown. Time is working FOR US now, and we have all the time in the world. Tyrant Syndicate Prod. will prove to the metal community that we have the ability to release what is supreme metal. The first band we have signed is Aura Noir from Oslo, with their new album "The Merciless". This masterpiece will be an indication on the quality-level we are aiming for, and therefore it's our responsibility to follow things up
after this release. Since our releases go through the usually Peaceville channels, the result will be a high-quality, well-distributed product that will have great impact wherever you can get these products. And luckily, there are still loads of great metal-acts left in the world...."

Nocturno Culto
President, Tyrant Syndicate

The label is currently in the process of setting up their own PO BOX for demo submissions. An announcement will be made in one month's time with the address.

Satyricon - will play Darkthrone's songs in W:O:A

Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON have posted the following message on their web site:

"We will be headlining Saturday the 7th of August doing a special set where we will perform DARKTHRONE songs with their singer the last 30 minutes of our show. Anyone who knows their black metal is aware of DARKTHRONE's policy of not playing live. They've decided to do this special event and asked us to be a part of it and that is of course a great honour. We're also glad that this historical event has the approval of Fenriz and Zephyrous. Bonds between SATYRICON and DARKTHRONE have always been extremely tight and this is a great way of showing it. The thought of kicking into our opening song 'Walk The Path Of Sorrow' in front of 30-40.000 people makes the wait almost unbearable. Some of you have have been sending concerned e-mails asking what the festival means by using the phrasing 'last show forever' about our performance. We don't know WHAT THEY FUCK they are talking about and rest assured... SATYRICON is alive and kicking as ever before!

" No movement on the Frost case. We've will be auditioning drummers in August. So far we've had no luck as some drummers we have contacted have schedules that doesn't allow them to tour with us or they turn out not to be good enough. We're hoping to return in Sep/Oct/Nov. So be patient, darkness always prevails"
