Painside - Sign To Inner Wound Recordings

Inner Wound Recordings are proud to announce the signing of the Brazilian heavy metal band Painside. Their debut album Dark World Burden will be released in Europe April 2nd.

Inspired by the traditional sound of pioneering bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, while adding modern influences from bands such as Nevermore and Disturbed, the band's sound is an elaborate and diverse emotional rollercoaster backed by sharp riffs, in your face vocals and a crunching sound to color the sonic landscape.

Dark World Burden cover art] tracklist:

01. Ignite The Fire
02. Where Darkness Rules
03. Collapse The Lies
04. The Deviant
05. This Dark World
06. Sand Messiah
07. Forsaken
08. Serpent's Tongue
09. The Edge
10. Martyr
11. Redeemers In Blood

The CD was mixed by Alex Macedo (Syren, Atlântida) and Renato Tribuzy (Tribuzy), who also produced the record, at Full Sound Studios in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. Appearing as guests are Gus Monsanto (Revolution Renaissance, Takara, ex-Adagio), Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger) and Renato himself, helping intertwine the group's musical vision, uniting the past and the present of heavy music.

Pain Of Salvation, Beardfish - Drop Off Progressive Nation Tour

Mike Portnoy has posted the following on the Dream Theater website:

"It is with the utmost disappointment that I am forced to share the unfortunate news of both Pain Of Salvation and Beardfish having to pull out of this summer's Progressive Nation tour....

Their label Inside Out just recently lost the financial funding for the tour as a result of their distributor SPV recently claiming bankruptcy...which effectively meant that both Pain Of Salvation and Beardfish lost the tour support that was essential to their ability to come to North America for Progressive Nation.

All parties involved (myself, both bands, Inside Out, etc) are beyond devastated at this turn of events and are truly sorry to all of the fans that were looking forward to this lineup. We tried everything we could do to salvage the situation, but in the end it was not possible...

Well as the album title says, every Black Cloud does indeed have a Silver Lining... so with this unfortunate news, I bring to you the good news of 2 incredible bands that will be jumping on board Progressive Nation to join Dream Theater and Zappa Plays Zappa this summer: Bigelf and Scale The Summit.

Los Angeles' Bigelf are my personal favorite new band to come along in many years...their latest CD "Cheat The Gallows" is my favorite album of the year and I already had positioned them onto the European run of Progressive Nation in the Fall....with them now joining us on PN09 in North America as well, it looks like world domination is now not that far out of reach for them!
Pretty soon, everyone will hopefully be falling for their retro, psychedelic, progressive, hard rock, doom metal as hard as I have!

Houston instrumental band Scale The Summit are a recent discovery for me and their top notch musicianship will be a perfect fit to this Progressive Nation lineup stylistically falling very nicely between the musicality of Dream Theater and Zappa Plays Zappa. They bring the instrumental elements of prog rock and fusion into today's contemporary hard rock/metal sounds and are one of the most talented group of young musicians I've seen assembled in many years.

Once again, apologies to anybody disappointed in this unexpected and unavoidable lineup change...but the circumstances were beyond our control...
In any event, PN09 will carry on and still deliver the most musical bang for its buck this summer throughout North America and we look forward to sharing the evening with you!"

Pain Of Salvation - Lifting Their Tour Embargo On USA

Vocalist Daniel Gildenlöw of Pain Of Salvation has posted the following blog after Barack Obama's inauguration:

"We congratulate the people of USA on the Inauguration of their new President. We have waited for this day a long time, as have most of the world. Obama continually strikes us as the bravest and most promising US president that modern times have seen, and we nod our heads in agreement and respect for some of the things he expressed in his speech. Thus, with Barack Obama, in that very speech, offering an open hand to those willing to unclench their fists, Pain of Salvation will be first in line to offer our unclenching.

Therefore, let it be known that on the 20th of January 2009, after almost five years, Pain of Salvation are officially lifting their political embargo on USA. Our position on border control finger print scanning remains unchanged, and we will keep fighting against it and do what we can to oppose and fight it; but today we see an American nation of hope and want of change, and good should be met with good. Hence, we reach out to accept your hand. Not unconditionally, because real love is demanding: something to work on every day. But with our deepest and most sincere hope for a new start."

Pain Confessor - New Guitarist Announced

Finnish metallers Pain Confessor have announced new guitarist, Tommi Kurki, on their official site:

''Mr. Tommi Kurki has been around since the first gigs of Pain Confessor. In fact, he has been our mainstay Sound Engineer for pretty much all these years. This made the transition from behind the mixer to the frontlines an easy one, and very natural.

He Wasn't Born Yesterday? as a guitarist either. Tommi "Tommi Kurki" Kurki, or The Bullfinch as we like to call him, played guitar in the old Finnish progressive metal band Sancnity along with Pain Confessor producer Janne Saksa. Sancnity's swansong was their excellent early 90's album "Dew".

A multitude of musical paths were ventured after that, a few to mention were as a guitarist in Wooden Bone (Sancnity reincarnate as a more pop/rock-esque band) and as the vocalist for the Finnish punk band Rehtorit.

We are proud to have such a rock-hard extra fist to smash into the collective behind of humanity. This will only make things worse for those against us and add even more spice for those who like what we dish out!

Welcome to Pain Confessor, Tommi! We have been waiting for you.''

Regards,
Rest of Pain Confessor

Pain Of Salvation - 2DVD/2CD Box Set Details Revealed

According to a Blabbermouth translation, Swedish progressive rock/metal band Pain Of Salvation will release a 2DVD/2CD box set titled "Ending Themes (On The Two Deaths Of Pain Of Salvation)" cover artwork] on February 27, 2009 via InsideOut Music. The set will include the following:

DVD1: Season One

"Ending Themes" is the groundbreaking TV series that shocked a whole world (still uncertain which world) when it was first broadcasted. Thought to have been lost forever during the great war (wee bit uncertain as to which one), copies of the original tapes were found hidden under the floor boards of the Berlin Museum of Rather Contemporary Good Films after the wall came down (most likely the Iron Curtain, or possibly a Chinese one). Now, digitally restored into a massive Director's Cut never before seen on TV or anywhere else, this monumental work of cinematic art is finally available on DVD! Back to shock the world once again, this first season tells us the haunting story of five nearly young boys (wonderfully portrayed by five unknown Swedish actors), preparing themselves for an amazing journey into the unknown on which they will meet deceit, happiness, lies, Belgium, truths, love, and ultimately themselves, in a desperate pursuit of a mutual dream called Music. And as this fragile dream clashes with harsh reality, we watch them grow into five nearly young men. But what happens to a dream, when the dreamers change? Or part?? Alas, the depths of curiosity, as we stumble aching into this classic bildungsroman that is The First Death Of Pain Of Salvation.

Sixworlds / Eightdays (90-minute documentary by Per Hillblom):

* Episode 1 / The Pilot: Foreword
* Episode 2 / One: Final Rehearsal
* Episode 3 / Two: Leaving Entropia
* Episode 4 / Three: Should We Say "Hi" First?
* Episode 5 / Four: Put A Lock On Your Mouth
* Episode 6 / Five: Suspicious Minds
* Episode 7 / Six: Stay Humble
* Episode 8 / Seven: Busy With Metal
* Episode 9 / Eight: Onehundredandsixteendecibel
* Episode 10 / Epilogue: The First Death Of

* Easter Egg / Hidden Menu
* Sneak Preview

DVD2: Season Two

In this second season of "Ending Themes", we follow Daniel (wonderfully brought to life by Daniel Gildenlöw, who also played other Daniels in "Meet the Flower Kings", "Transatlantic" and "BE"), who meets with his jolly friends to perform music in Amsterdam (filmed on actual location in Amsterdam), but they all have emotional scars to deal with, after the somewhat sore break-up with former bass player and family member, and jolly friend, Kristoffer (here played by Simon Andersson, nominated somewhere for "Best Newcomer"), as hinted at in season one. Meanwhile, their jolly friend Léo Margarit (beautifully portrayed by Johan Langell, who won a Granny for "Best Male Actor With Sticks" for his part in "BE") is fighting his own demons, haunted by enticing visions of a mythical nirvana called Svenssonliv. This really gets to his jolly friend Johan (Hallgren, who is actually played by himself!). And how many Johans can there be in a band, or a series? And what might happen if he knew that his jolly friend Fredrik (Hermansson, who also played one of the unknown Swedish actors in season one) is secretly christened Johan too? The plot is thickening in this second season of the groundbreaking series "Ending Themes", as we slowly approach The Second Death Of Pain Of Salvation.

Pain Of Salvation - Bassist Quits

Bassist Simon Andersson has left the Swedish progressive metal band Pain Of Salvation. He writes in a statement, "I've been a part of this band for almost two years and I'm honoured I was the chosen one. Getting to know these wonderful musicians is even more of an honour? but I've reached the point where I just have to stop and walk my own way. Exhaustion, yearning and frustration are the three main issues.

Exhaustion: having a 'normal day job,' being a rockstar and having a lot of other (heavy) personal stuff became too much. I wanted everything so bad I ended up being sick with no energy whatsoever.

Yearning: being on tour means waiting. Waiting and waiting? I asked myself one day: is the life back home, the people I love, worth risking just being somewhere in the world waiting? My answer is no.

Frustration: I wanna focus on my own music when i have the time for it. Don't wanna be a wheel in motion in someone else's machinery? I have way too much inspiration and there is no space for this in Pain Of Salvation. Lack of dedication? No. Lack of creative outbursts within the band? Yes.

I can't give Pain Of Salvation 100% at this point, and the guys deserve better? the best thing to do is to go separate ways. We made this decision together and we part as friends. I wish them the best of luck!"

Pain Confessor - Part Ways With Guitarist

Finnish metallers Pain Confessor have issued the following update:

"The year 2008 was all rest for everyone in the Pain Confessor camp. We've been recharging our batteries but of course found some time to record a couple of demo songs that were released in June on our homesite and our MySpace page.

After the demo, we fell back into slumber. The urge to move forward grew within us and we found ourselves in the situation where the only way to move on was to let Vesa 'Wesleyer' Säkkinen go. We longed for the same fire that burned within us in the summer of 2002 when Pain Confessor was originally conceived.

All further speculation is futile. What's important is that we are very much alive and feel that we made the correct decision in order to evolve and boost the creativity and inspiration within the band.

All systems are go, new material is in the works. Still, it is too early to talk about a new full length album as of now but we are excited about our new material. We guarantee a new album at some point.

New guitarist? We have chosen a new guitarist already. Although his identity shall remain a mystery for a short while still we can say we are proud to have him join our ranks and can't wait to utilize his vocal abilities and skills as a guitarist.

Official announcement will happen at our concert Friday the 21st of November at Rocktown, Hämeenlinna, Finland. Our new member will make his first live appearance during the show. We also have a good friend from Hateform/Mors Principium Est, Tomy Laisto, to play second guitar for the show."
