Anniversary Metal Storm Awards - Results Are In!

Voting on our 10th Anniversary Awards has closed and we would like to thank everyone who participated. It surely was a trip down memory lane for some and equally interesting to see which band won their respective category over the last 10 years.

We hope you all had fun voting on YOUR winners and while each genre received at least 500 votes, the biggest draw were clearly the progressive and alternative metal categories; with 1020 and 980 votes respectively.

Some winner were a given (Opeth - Ghost Reveries by a landslide of 200 votes over Ayreon - The Human Equation in the progressive metal category) while others had to fight for their spot on top (both AC/DC in hard rock and Amorphis in heavy / melodic metal won with a mere margin of 9 votes).

Again, thanks for voting, you can check out all of the winners HERE and keep your eyes peeled for the main event you all have been waiting for.

We are busy crossing the t's and dotting the i's for the 2014 Metal Storm Awards and voting will open in a couple of days.

Stay tuned !

I don't really think Once was that bad, but certainly it does not live up to other names featured in its category. I think Nightwish did a lot worse on their debut and last two albums with Anette. This is just my opinion though... but I doubt Nightwish would be the same without tunes like Dark Chest Of Wonders, Nemo, Planet Hell, The Siren or Ghost Love Score. Not to mention Creek Mary's Blood. There are some tracks that pull it back like Dead Gardens, Higher Than Hope or the one sung in finish (and I never really was a fan of Romanticide or Wish I Had An Angel either), but overall, it is an above average album, on par with Century Child.

The Black Halo seemed like the obvious winner off that list, which is why I voted for it. Once was objectively the weakest album. Even if it has some memorable tunes, the other albums there are more consistent.

Not that I like Nightwish or Once, but how is an album objectively the weakest album? Subjectively, yes, objectively, I'd say no, unless none of the band memmbers can play an instrument. And even then an album can be strong.

Take a look at ManiacBlasphemer's tone. Then take a look at Bitter's tone. Put two and two together. This exact thing happened when this award was introduced. Staff claim to abhor certain kinds of attitudes on threads like this, however on both occasions discussion was fine and civil until certain staff started throwing shit around, changing the mood with the same diatribes. Looks like you've joined the party with us. Congrats. Is it so hard to take some responsibility and let people say what they want to say about the awards (especially when it's clearly laughable like this one) instead of making the same condescending swipes at people year after year?

Remember when you said to me not too long ago that jumping between two people is only pouring more fuel on the fire, and works very little towards actually resolving things? You may want to take your own advice.

Not really an issue between two people. More like a recurring issue with one person (and occasionally others) and anyone else who comments in a certain manner, that adds to an overall problem (and yeah, I'm aware of the irony that that could describe me as well).

Objectively? Not at all. Maybe from the Tarja era, but even so, Angels Fall First is a much more bland work when compared to Once. If you compare it with Oceanborn or Wishmaster, maybe, but I wouldn't say it is worse than DPP or Imaginaerum. That would be like blasphemy. I also opted for The Black Halo. I like Once, but if I would have to choose between it and Kamelot's The Black Halo, I would choose the second.

You know sometime ago I exactly used the same word "variety" in the thread of 10th Anniversary Is Open For Vote...

On topic: I'm glad to see that BaN is the winner, maybe the only one I think that it deserves, and gosh Katatonia ? in doom metal won with Great Cold Distance...

I meant the albums from that Power Metal list, dude. ¬¬ The Black Halo, The Scarecrow, At The Edge Of Time, A Twist In The Myth, Nemesis, The Days Of Grays, Silverthorn, and Ghost Opera are all better than Nightwish's Once.

Anyway, I think there's no use for me to keep complaining about this. What happened, happened.

To be honest, Nightwish - Once was easily the best album in the Power Metal category for me. The Black Halo was decent, but the rest of the albums were among their corresponding bands worst albums. Once was great right through.

I'm a little disappointed Therion - Lemuria didn't pull through though. Also The Ruins of Beverast in Extreme Doom.

Based on the discontentment here, could we expect a record low number of votes for the proper awards tomorrow? Or just a repeat.

Tomorrow is MS AWARDS!!

Woo-hoo!

I don't know but every year it's really a cool fest for me. Doritos - ready, Coke - ready, Biryani - ready, Dark Fanatsy Cookies - ready, Cynic - ready.

I wonder which album will be written into every category this year? And how many different spellings of the same album the write-ins will have?

I am happy Opeth and Nevermore won their categories, especially Nevermore since no other nominee in Thrash is coming close to The Godless Endevor as pretty much anything else made in the thrash genre since then.

Damn, didn't get a single one that I voted for...

That being said, the only one that really ticked me off in any sort of way was Black Ice getting best hard rock award. That's just wrong...

Oh, and also the fact that The Retinal Circus didn't get best DVD. I mean, that wasn't just a concert, that was a SHOW. (And I'm not even the biggest fan of Devin)

I've been sick for about a year and haven't been listening to as much new music (can't afford/too ill to enjoy). I can't vote for the albums of 2014, but this was easy for the 6 or 7 categories I like. If these were all winners from previous years and made the list based on that, people need a cup of "shut the fuck up", as it's only a poll on a small site within a massive internet and also for the following:

If it made the genre for that year, it's gonna be in that category.
If it's a popular band, it'll probably win. These are voted on by fans, not critics.
If you don't like it, go make your own fucking website and be uber cvlt over there.
